like a house of leaves moments before the wind

I'm here singing along to my All Time Low CD. Not very cool but I'm not bothered--easy listening, i guess. that and Blah Blah Blah by Kesha and Villagers' debut. I wish I still had time for music.

This week I got a D on a math test and a C on a science test. If it was possible for one's self esteem and/or confidence to be bi-polar then mine would certainly be just that. Simply put, not a good week in that respect. I do technically know the math stuff, really. In my math class my teacher just started doing Plus Quizzes and Tests, which she's given about five kids in the class. I'm kinda the bottom of the top, shall we say. the test was hard, really it was. or I'm dumb. either way, I fuck up on this test and I go from a ninetysevenfuckingpercent to an A minus and I had a quiz today which I didn't do well on. that wasn't even plus. dammit. And science was simply a disaster. Hello, B Minus. Goodbye high honors. And I was prepared! But I got a 75! Grrrr! Then I had to fuck up my science essay. my dad likes this stars stuff and in the end he was like, okay I'll just do your citations go do your math homework, which works out very well on my part. still, I was too tired to move and so was he--goodbye good grade. and maximum 150 points on that project, my God, I'm so screwed. gotta throw a presentation together by Wednesday. anxiety returning. hello old friend.

My mom's annoyed at the school 'cause of the homework load. can't say I disagree. all I do after school is piano once a week and guitar on the weekend, and I'm up all night doing homework. no wonder I'm fucking up on a semi-regular basis now; I'm tired. Tired beyond reason. Not a normal fatigue, no, just a general exhaustion at the overwhelming magnitude of...stuff. yes, because that's so eloquent, right Naomi? well, you get my idea. I want to be done with this last week before Christmas, because physically doing anything is killing me. It kinda feels like I've no time for anything anymore, not even music or books or TV, which is pretty sad because I've been rocking that whole premature middle aged "my life is slipping away" thing at the moment, and this only makes it worse. Sigh. High school.

Shining light of hope is a possible snow day on Monday. At the very least, yes, we get snow! I've gotten so adapted to white Christmases it'd feel weird without one now. to think I was worried--bah. around eight inches. lovely. and a day off school, please.

I finally got round to getting a Christmas sheet music book. Can already play simple versions of a few songs. I used to be able to play Walking in The Air but I need to re-remember. speaking of that, my mom got The Snowman DVD for me, last copy in the store, and I was pleased because A.) I didn't think such a find would be possible and B.) the film is beautiful. That was one of my favorite songs when I was younger. I was more musically oriented than I was aware when I was younger. that and Brother Bear and Kaiser Chiefs. anyway, point being, it's starting to feel like christmas. We're getting our tree tomorrow(none of that plastic crap. see my last post.) and I see lights everywhere and there will be snow. I'm seeing my aunt on Wednesday. this time next week I'll be watching a DVD with my family and eating baked potatoes and making mince pies. traditions. whoever says Christmas is overrated in the name of their angst is moronic--Christmas is the best.

oh, I saw Weezer on Tuesday. basically amazing. I do love Rivers Cuomo and his fantastic nerd rock. The place I saw them is this spectacular crumbling wannabe opera house. It has these little balconies with a name I don't know that stick out from the sides. those little boxes, you know the type. and at one point Rivers climbs on top of them while singing Pork and Beans, and then he climbed from these boxes to the balcony(or, was pulled up. the gap was like his whole body length.) and then sang all of Beverly Hills in the balcony, where I, on the floor, couldn't see him. it was wonderful. They played hits, had an intermission, made some guy come up with a power point of Weezer's history( total nerdgasm right there) and then played the blue album back to front. I've never seen a band perform an entire album, and it was interesting. sadly I was falling asleep for some of that. Dammit high school, you ruin so much. But I got to walk through Boston in my River Island concert boots and my mom's old jacket like I'm from My Chemical Romance pre good music. It was snowing a bit then, too.

relaxing week apart from all that, although in fairness the stress was about 95% of my week. gym was super great today. teacher read my tired mind and let us do anything. we played four square and blasted christmas music. I still dislike girls in my class but oh well. Me and these people in study are reading my crumbling copy of the Color Purple which I'm rereading because I love it to death, and they just end up grimacing. it's disrespectful, and funny in a sick way.

OH, House of leaves! It's a book my Mark Z Danielewski who wrote Only Revolutions. I went fangirl briefly about it in October. Fact; OR is awful compared to this book. it's 700 hundred something pages long, rather crazy, and took more than two weeks for my slow brain to finish. the day before last, I closed the book with some sadness. It was the sort of book that i would love to go on forever. the book's super complex, very deep, very interesting, very weird, very, well, good. and so beautiful. as much a horror story as a love story and deeply fascinating. plus, the guy's such a poet. title quote.I don't know, I like it. read it. you won't regret it.

I'm gonna spend my evening with Guy Garvey's sultry tones(did I just say that) and my latest obsession that is fashion blogs. like everyone else.

good night.

I Never Want to Know of Stars Again

It's true.

I came home from school at like 2:25, 2:30 yesterday, and worked--without Facebook or TV etc.--until 11:15. Oh. My God. AND, I found out a few days ago it's double spaced not single spaced and I was like, oh yeah, thanks Mrs. Teacher, how about putting that on thee rubric next time? And I worked the entire week anyway, completely neglecting everything else, subsequently lowering my science grade a few other percents to the point where I'm .1% away from a B+, not my beloved A- which I've worked so hard for this year. It was one lab, maybe two labs okay, that I completely fucked up on because I'm basically asleep when I'm doing them. And oh yeah I'm sorry my writing isn't legible. I'd rather it be weird looking and slightly eccentric than use that enormous bubbly girly handwriting every female person in the developed world has seem to have adopted for no reason I can find. You could be the smartest person in the school; if you write like that, you look ditsy.

I have a test on Tuesday and I don't understand anything and I really need it to be at least an A- and I've got two graded labs to do, and I'll probably end up, like, wearing sterile gloves and doing ten drafts on one-word sentences, because if I lose even the slightest fraction of a point, I am fucked for good. PHYSICAL SCIENCE, PLEASE END. YOU ARE KILLING ME. IT IS A FRIDAY EVENING AND I AM FOURTEEN YEARS OLD AND YOUR GRADE IS ALL I SEEM TO THINK ABOUT.

Bam, there went my so-called sense of calmness for, like, forever.

Speaking of that, here's an interesting thought, why am I apparently prone to being stereotyped and generalized? And I mean, more than most people it seems, but of course that's a hugely self absorbed thing to suggest, but for today, I will anyway. This week, in particular, this has happened frequently. First in Geometry I'm at my table and I'm not talking, because I don't want to. And really, there's no sizeable reason for any of this. They're talking about something I don't want to talk about or have anything to say about. is that such a crime? Well apparently in this world, yes it is, but actually no it isn't but that's sort of an angry mini-rant in its own right. And then out of the blue someone at my table starts talking about me being quiet. It's partly an English thing. She knows I'm British, she thinks I'm gonna be like Matt Bellamy's personality clone. Oh, how I wish I was. Trust me, I'm not that interesting or whatever, but even if I was, leave me to be quiet. And then my Geometry teacher starts talking about how she wrote in my progress report I'm too quiet. I may be the quietest, but I've also got a 97% in that class(in case you haven't noticed, my brain is 95% numbers right now) so apparently it isn't killing me. People in study and gym call me 'cute' and the way you might call a baby cute and I'm like, why? You don't know me that well. I don't understand it. Someone told a sub-par 'perverted' joke the other day and I think I smiled. They were no Frankie Boyle, but I smiled. And then someone's like "oh, look at Naomi. She's like 'I shouldn't be laughing at this but i am anyway'".

Excuse me, but when did I ever say that or suggest anything to that extent? By not talking? By being quiet? Somehow, that and my sense of humour don't really add up. Do you assume that by my thinking that a lot of jokes I hear are sexist or xenophobic or distasteful or racist or offensive to someone, somewhere? By the way, I do have a sense of humour--and it is frequently quite dark. you don't know that, you don't know what I think. And let me tell you, dark is not necessarily the same as disgusting. It's everyone else who doesn't know that. People in gym are annoying. I'm always the last left in the game because no one wants to get the kid who isn't a threat out, right? So then I keep running the length of the gym in whatever stupid game we were playing, and these girls are like 'look at her, she's so cute'. In Spanish today, which mind you was a total waste of time minus the sweet tea(since when did I like sweet tea?) we spent nearly an hour assigning traits to people. We're comparing people and using the superlative but the whole thing falls flat to gossip after a few minutes. for example, when people aren't there, we don't get 'he is the funniest in the class' and 'she is the prettiest in the class'. No, we are as inhibited as to say 'he's the most childish in the class' and 'she's the most freakishly skinny in the class'. And the teacher doesn't do a damn thing, you just stand there being examined head to toe and in your brain, not that they know what goes on in there. I eventually got 'she has the best accent in the class'. I'm trying to work out whether that's better than Naomi You're So Quiet, but this really is another matter, so I'm stopping that.

This whole thing does lower you as a person as a tiny bit. I guess it happens to everyone, but if you're ever so slightly off to one side of the imaginary bell curve of normality, people think they know the inner workings of your brain. Or is it me? if so, why? Is it a physical thing? My being awkward? My not wanting to run? Just being...not as talkative as is maybe within social convention? It happens and I hate it. But tell me the answer, because I really, really want to know.

I never thought in a free country one would have to make a sort of liberal bullshit-ridden 'stand' about how much they speak, but if I have to, I will; Introverted And Proud. Hardly a complicated thing to discuss, anything but, yet apparently we have to. Separate your minds and your mouths and let others do the same. and don't boast about how not to judge people while simultaneously judging the quiet kid. that's just nonsense.

This wasn't supposed to be a rant post, I haven't gotten a chance to write all week. I'm exhausted, by my standards, and am going through a Friday Night rampage of fashion blogs, David Mitchell clips on YouTube, Sweeney Todd, men's clothes in Sweeney Todd(honestly my favorite period male fashion wise, not that I know a single thing of it. Ditch the too-skinny or too-baggy jeans and baseball caps, boys.), and House of leaves by Mark Danielewski. I haven't read in forever too and it's a breath of fresh air. Marry me, Mr. Danielewski. You and your perfect illustrations of teenage angst and your random half empty pages and your fetish of all things whimsical. Love it.

I think I'm writing like his main character anyway. I'm no grail of coolness in terms of how my blog is, but I'm writing ever so slightly weirder than normal.

also, apparently, I'm so 'normal'. You know, I'm not your fucking parameter for how weird you are. You and your uggs and yoga pants and American Eagle sweaters and your paramore songs on your ipod and your so-called hilarity and your hoards of friends and your normality. yes, it is certainly logical for you to be the weird one in this situation. because you talk more. which is normal. MAKES SO MUCH SENSE, YOU KNOW?

I tend not to have a problem with most of the above list, other than it's sorta boring, but don't claim to be God Of Diversity because of it, kay?

I think my mom thinks I'm going to have an aneurysm because of my homework, or something, so she wants to go out of her way to make this weekend relaxing. I made cookies after school and I'm gonna look for more Christmas sheet music tomorrow. I'm seeing Weezer on Tuesday. Christmas in 15 days. Hey remember when I hated winter and didn't want it to snow yet? Haha, yeah...*blushes* I'd die without my white Christmas, and it had better hurry up, like, now.

Since this is a hate post, let me add something; thing I hate #286. Fake Christmas Trees. Oh my God we don't live in Mexico, it's fairly simple to go out and buy a tree. And yes it'll go off. That's why you're not supposed to put it up the day after Thanksgiving. These are the same people who meticulously clean leaves off their lawns the first day of october. you people depress me. live a little. ironically listen to Mud and sing even though you can't. contradict yourself fairly regularly.

what am I talking about?

I'm not even trying to be all allovertheplace indie. I'm not. That is why these posts are so long.

At risk of turning away anyone else at the endless list of slightly irritating things I've written about, I'm going to leave and watch Buzzcocks. Good day.

feckless with freckles and nothing to lose

The title is from Only Revolutions. Remember that amazing book I talked about last night? I went through quotes I found, last night, and found some beauties.

My mother's spending a week in England. Funny timing I know. I guess it doesn't have too many consequences other than I had to waste two hours of my previous time to go to the airport. Sigh sigh sigh. Oh NaNoWriMo, if only I didn't have to spend so much time writing for you every day, I might actually have time to write something halfway substantial here or update the crappy design of this blog. But alas, a half hour of this it is, and then to Spanish studying.

I'm gonna fail a Spanish test on Thursday at this rate. I don't know the words, let alone have time to study them My teacher gave us thirty questions that we have to have prepared answers for. Jesus Christ almighty, I do not have time for that.

I haven't watched Peep Show in days. Days! I did watch all of the first Lord Of The Rings on Sunday. Is it weird I'm in a Lord Of The Rings phase? FYI, that was my first proper fangirl obsession. So here's to nostalgia. I don't think I had the faintest idea what was going on when I first saw that movie, but I loved it. Now I notice things like "hey, Aragorn's pretty much the coolest guy ever" and "hey, the Orks have cool shoes, if they really qualify as shoes".

"It's okay. It's not a problem. I love her, she's going to kill me. Everything's fine". - Mark

Oh Mark, I know the feeling. I know the feeling.

I got my grades for term 1 today. An A 94% in Spanish, A 92% in Geometry, A- 90% on Science. So, good good good. Seems rather appropriate. I had a math test today which went fine, as far as I can tell. Aren't kites just the worst shape there is? I can't stand the damn things.

Oh yeah, I got a 90% on my science midterm which is a bit above average, and totally where I should be. Still, I loathe the idea of how big an affect it has on your grade. And electricity! I hate electricity! And research papers! We're finding out about that soon. What am I to do? I've no idea. I always do microbiology. But it's kinda dumb to do that yet again I think.

School play on Sunday. I wasn't gonna go but a drama person pressured me and I've become more of a recluse than I was before, so I was like whatever. It's Rent this year which I find exciting. I don't do musicals or plays or know anything about them, but this sounds good.

We went outside again in gym and we have to do zip lines and, oh yeah, no no no no no I am not doing that. Toooo much attention. That is not an excuse--that is the truth. This class can be lovable or detestable. I have cool people in my class. But at least it's not study--study is a blessing but all I ever hear at the moment is the annoying sophomore who constantly acts superior to us freshman, totally ignoring the fact that all the people his age look down on him. Plus, he gives us a daily dose of jokes that are racist, homophobic, xenophobic, self-obsessed, pretentious, and trashy. Always good to figt that political correctness, you know?

Here's one thing that bothers me; I'm not in health this semester but a lot of my friends are the topic is now sex. this girl I dislike--although we are misfits, so we accept we must stick together--was talking to this guy I dislike who won't leave me alone, about the class. How many times was the word "awkward" mentioned? That in itself is an overused word. But he was like talking about "the most awkward topic ever". Guess what guys? Penis vagina semen sperm clitoris estrogen testosterone eggs ovaries orgasm erection ejaculation STD herpes testes pregnancy sexual assault. Grow up.

America, when it comes to sex is stuck between being totally liberal and really freaking conservative. And I'm not talking individually, either, the country as a whole is just completely confused. I often wonder which is the better way. I mean, actually no, liberal is waaaaaay better(didn't see that coming, did you? Haha). Better I think if we get rid of these taboos that seemingly independent, intelligent fourteen year olds squirm*, things would be a whole hell of a lot better.

Anyway, now that that's done with, my blog is really shit isn't it? I know it's a journal, but...still. I need to make it decorative and pretty this weekend, if I can manage. Sigh sigh sigh. I hate my brain. It comes up with shit like this. And thinking about it, when did I regularly say the s word? I will fucing say fuck as fucking much as I fucking please, but I tend to shy away from the s word. My priorities are odd. ANYWAY,

I hate my blog. I wish I was, like, Tavi Gevinson but I am so obviously not. My blog is a freak, a social outcast. They say it's good to be unique but unique and shit is not a good thing, is it? The definition of unique is very specific, and often doesn't include fourteen year olds with far too linear-thinking brains who write endless, discordant nonsensey things every few days.

Anyway, I'm being distracted by some show that's trying to combine baseball and post 9/11 patriotism/paranoia. Not gonna happen, guys. Just watching this is making me angry. Why am I trying to be a bit, I don't know, stupidly politicized today? I should go listen to Faithless. I haven't had dinner yet, though. I'm tired as always. And my time is running out. Should probably go, gonna go listen to the Libs.

Bye bye.

*or perhaps the problem is pressure to be conservative about it? I'm not sure. I just had a Facebook discussion about defining gender and sexual reproduction. obviously this massive generalisation I am making about my peers does not include myself therefore I should not be one to make assumptions.

NanoWriMo Day One

Hello.

I got done with my first 1,667 words a few minutes ago. Yes, I am doing NaNoWriMo. for some reason among midterms, tests, homework, piano lessons, my mother going to England for a week, and all that--which, admittedly, isn't a ton compared to most--I have decided to write a 50,000 word story in 30 days. i am one of those crazy deluded people, yes. But for the first week at least, it's fun.

Something's being elected tomorrow so no school. Yay! that's good for the writing. however, over the course of actual school, blogging and writing a novel will be tricky to do at the same time. So, until December, blogging will pretty much be a weekend thing. So...y'know, savor it while you can. I will savor not being ridiculously stressed for the moment. However, the big positive about this is that it gives me something to do over November. It's not technically winter yet but it is in my head. and I hate winter. hate hate hate it so much. Everyone dislikes it but I am something, it appears, of an extreme. I mean that so much more than I can actually explain. Seasonal Affective Disorder? Not diagnosed and don't think I should be. It's just different. I need something to do this time of year or things just get very bad. thanks, nanowrimo.

My Halloween rocked thank you very much. I spent the whole weekend worrying I wouldn't get to go with anyone but I went with my friend, and two sort of friends. I knew them from middle school and they're nice enough. And one's in my geometry class and the other my gym and study. it was the first Halloween where it wasn't seventy plus degrees and I had to wear gloves(I was a last minute pirate by the way. Emphasis on last minute.). the depressing thing was how empty it was. Probably to do with it being a Sunday or something, but we were in a fairly busy area and there weren't many kids out. Kind of a shame. we went back to have pie at my friend's house but there wasn't enough time. So, great!

that evening I went to a Florence and the Machine concert. It's not much of a story but it would take up more words than I have time to write. Put simply, she was very very very good. she played all my favorites and didn't play You got The Love(nice) and her and her band were dressed as skeletons. it was cool. My first time seeing Florence. Would very much like to again. although how 'bout that 2nd album, eh Florence? See my, um, music blog for details(ish).

Now, I'm so tired. last night i did my random thing of waking up at three in the morning for no reason, despite going to bed so late. Ugh. why?

Sunday morning was like super super busy, what with homework and organising the evening and stuff. I carved a pumpkin! I used a template and it says Welcome. It was a tricky design and an awkward bit fell off but I'm proud of it. also, do pumpkins not smell amazing? I love it! Halloween is so cool. Christmas then Halloween then...everything else, in my book. Yes.

It's kinda sad that it's over. oh, it's the curse of November 1st. My silly brain.

On the plus side, Peep show in 25 days. Jesse and Sam, give me a super witty late November sitcom, 'kay?

PEEP SHOW MOMENT OF THE POST;

"I'll tell you what, this crack is really moreish" - Superhans

this show is my life and my love. I'm creepy.

I'm listening to Peter Doherty's solo. Still love it. It is so not mediocre like people think. What's happening with the Libertines, I wonder? I've heard nothing. that's so weird.

Is it just me, or is music SO boring at the moment? it's so sad that a Kings of Leon album is gonna be the biggest album of the latter part of the year. I've only added a few songs lately to my ipod . i will add more Florence and Walkmen, but come on...things just aren't looking good. I'm sad about it.

Oh yes, Friday afternoon! amazing! I knew the school were gonna dress up but I wasn't expecting the extent to which it went. My God, there was some serious effort put into some of those. Yes, most were like Mario and cross dressing and stuff but there was Lady Gagas and one Mario with an electric board thing, a condom dispenser, a guy walking upside down, etc. it rocked! Most mornings in the hallway where I sit, there are these guys who put an iPhone in their backpack playing the same dance track and wander around in circles for no reason. Friday there were like twenty of them, all in costume of course, and it was kinda amazing. the funny thing was how it was the senior guys who had put in the serious effort and it was the freshman in, like, funny hats and glasses. How brilliant and unexpected is that? plus, a guy in my study was supposed to be Mexican and he brought a guitar with him. We had a sub in study and the teacher was reading out all the rules one already knows, as subs tend to do, and the guy kept playing a couple of chords after he finished each sentence. "Now, this is a QUIET study..." *Mexican-sounding strumming*. Genius!

I'm gonna have a busy week. math test on Friday, Spanish test wednesday, Spanish presentation Friday, Science test wednesday, science mid-ohmyeffinggod-term Friday. all these tests! My grades are okay in all classes at the moment. I got updates a few days ago. Slightly better in geometry slightly worse in science. spanish the same. Science labs are silly. Spanish is verbs that are boring, and food that I can't be bothered to learn. Gym is gym. We were pulling people up like flying squirrels today. It's getting rather too cold to be outside every lesson.

Geometry's weird. I had a quiz last week and I thought I did really badly because I didn't understand half of it and I could have done with more time. However, i got it back today. 104%. She acknowledges people who do really well after tests and quizzes and I was the only one today. and I'm not a regular for that sort of thing. I'm not trying to boast, I'm just saying this is the weirdest thing that has happened to be in quite a long time. On the bonus one, I guessed. How did I guess a bonus and get it right? It's like, what the hell? And when I say guess, I literally mean the only logic I applied was "well, this unit is about congruent sides on triangles and stuff, so I'm gonna run with that idea and hope it's right". And it was! Ha! Hardest quiz so far and best grade. Yeesssssss. Here's to keeping an A minus and feeling good.

Since I have a day off tomorrow, I'm gonna go to the mall. it's not very exciting, but it's something. This entire week, my sister is at a camp in Maine in below average temperatures, sitting outside and learning about peer pressure and going to bed several hours earlier than she likes. Yay! Her whole grade does it. I did it, too, in 7th grade and I abhorred it like most others. I actually had it a week earlier and I still froze so I win, sorta. But it will be lonely without her. I will have to take her place. I will have to hit random piano keys while I'm playing, I will have to not do my math homework until my dad screams at me to do so, I will have to have arguments with myself over whether I can watch Peep Show or Avatar before I go to bed. It's gonna be a fun, fun week.

Have fun writing guys. 1/30 there! Happy November xD

Cool Weekend.

hello world.

guess what I just discovered? I got an A- in Spanish. Totally fine, but I FAILED PARTICIPATION. When I say failed, I mean failed--F. I've never gotten an F before. The teachers all threatened that they're serious about participation grades, but my Spanish teacher is obviously the only one to be following her own rule. Personally I don't understand the point of participation or its grades and it obviously hasn't affected my grade too much, so who cares? The fact that I got an F I find weirdly amusing. Haha!

this weekend in review; awesome. Like, best weekend of the school year so far because I really am that easily pleased. Friday I sorta did badly on an unfair Spanish quiz, did bad-ish on a science test although no one finished so we have to finish on Tuesday. My teacher was so annoyed by that and it was pointless for me because I will never understand projectile motion and all I have left are bonuses, which I can do because they're just pendulums and stuff. No big deal. Deserving of, say, a B at least. Geometry found out I did badly on a math test-79. Blah. Then we were given a project about bridges and talked about triangles. There's a bridge in Lisbon called the 25 de Abril Bridge. that's my birthday and I thought it was awesome so I hope I can do that one. And then I had last period study hall which is blisfully pointless on a Friday.

Came home, went for a walk in that lovely autumn breeze, and went to this theme park specially done up for Halloween this month with three friends. It was basically ridiculously amazing. Took us a while to get there(we had to sit in the car outside one of my friends house because she was doing errands when we got there!) and I don't really do rides. Or haunted houses 'cause I'm a coward. But it was so much fun. We took a picture in one of those cheesy photo booths, watched one of my friends be buried alive, made an idiot out of myself as I was chased by a guy with a chainsaw, suffered my way through a little bit of my first candy apple(never. again.), threw candy off the top of a ferris wheel while having semi-ironic Through The Grapevine discussions that were so High School, talked endlessly about hot guys, got lost in a house of mirrors, lost a game of air hockey, payed for absolutely everyone's stuff, ate too much disgusting popcorn, and had many an awkward hug. And just generally had a good Friday night with people I like, as opposed to a growing number of people I dislike in my classes, and spending Friday night reading and watching Peep Show.

Yeah. It rocked.

Saturday was my usual guitar lesson in the morning--working on Libertines, by the way--and then your usual afternoon, went to the mall with the same group of people, plus another friend, and one of their friends. No one is our group is necessarily a real sort of shopping addict but I have nothing against trying on a million knit hats that don't suit me or wandering(appauled)through Spencers. All your usual clothes stores. Saw nothing that I particularly liked and I don't need any clothes, but I did buy an Imogen Heap CD in FYE and I got a badge that says "Meh" in Hot Topic for my sister because it's sort of her catchphrase. All my friends know that, too. At one point we all met up outside Bertuccis and for most of us had our first experience of ordering at a restaurant without our parents. We shared a pizza and stuff and talked people at school and how I am like Ferb, among other things. Kinda a weirdly amazing experience. Oh, and I got a smoothie at the end of the trip. At home I watched Grilled Cheesus for the sole purpose of being offended, and then turned my friend onto Tim Minchin, sort of.

Again. Rockage. If you're okay with such stupid use of language.

Sunday I went to a fair with my family plus my sister's friend. It was your usual greasy all-American commercial setup but I guess there are worse ways to spend a Sunday.

Came home, watched a Richard Dawkins documentary and did a really short blo post.

And today had a slow morning(cheers, Columbus), went out in the afternoon to Barnes and Noble. I got another Ellen Hopkins book, something by Alice Sebold, a nonfiction music book, and something about Euclid and Geometry. Did math homework, researched bridges, watched Mock The Week, read for an hour, caught up on piano, went for another walk, obsessed over Biffy Clyro interviews, and arrived here.

In essence, it was amazing. Ah I love weekends. So much has happened that last week now feels like an eternity away and I don't wanna go back. Oh well. The whole of October is set to be great and this is a short week, so who cares?

Only thing worrying about tomorrow, other than the whole, you know, it just generally being school thing and I have a 'stalker', is gym. Trust falls were fun, right, I'll admit that and rarely will I admit that about anything school related. But tomorrow we're going out onto the adventure course and everyone's supposed to do it. everyone. My teacher says you don't have to do it; no, you're just peer pressured and egged on and mocked if you choose not to and you let your class down if you're the only one who doesn't. Yeah, that totally leaves it up to choice. The whole class is just BS, there's no two ways around it. I'm actually dreading it. My Plan is, basically, I'm gonna wear the longest, flar-iest, most ridiculous lyinappropriate jeans I own. Maybe if your clothes aren't suitable I won't be able to do it, or something? health and safety and all that. I don't do the gym clothes thing. it's always worth a go!

Now I'm just watching Biffy Clyro interviews. my TV is broken. Shooting Stars cold turkey. there isn't a whole lot to do.

Now I remember why blogging every three to four days created not the most interesting of posts. Which is weird due to what a great time I've been having. Huh.

Now I'm just gonna watch Biffy interviews because Simon is effing adorable. There's no arguing that.

And of course, not look forward to tomorrow.

But October, you rock. Just saying.

Oh shoot, I need to do some nanoplanning, for which I have a weak, almost plagiarised idea coming together. It's better than nothing! November's gonna be a mad, mad month. And I can't wait.

Anyway. Gotta go. See you, world.

October.

Hello world.

Blink and you miss September. At least that's the lesson I learned this year. Why is it October already? Goodness knows. I certainly don't.

I know it's a weird thing to start thinking on October 2nd, but I miss summer. I haven't really had time to think about that yet because every thing's been so chaotic getting used to a new school and all the work and everything, and it's only just now that the revelation is dawning that I miss summer. I do miss England. You will hear me say that a billion and one times and I'm sorry, I just do. I miss when you walk outside and you're just kinda hit with the heat. You can wear shorts. God I hate having to wear jeans and yeah I don't care if that sounds odd. all the memories from the summer and now I have to wake up at six every morning and I'm not done with work until like seven. Wow, it's a change.

Everybody knows autumn's fun because it's atmospheric in the most hipster-like sort of way. In that "ooh, look at the leaves, let's listen to some rubbish folk music" sorta way. And I like that, of course. It's worth mentioning how vital music was to me last autumn. Time to bring out the Joanna Newsom, Macabees, Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Sadly NME-hyped music at the moment is less Mumford more Tinie so whatevs, there goes that. I had a really great October last year, easily the best school month of the year. I just worry it won't be as great this year, as weird as that sounds. Although I've still got apple picking, Halloween, halloween parties, this theme park I'm going to, Florence, walks, et cetera to look forward to so it should work it fine.

However, this year I probably won't end up on a Saturday afternoon being fitted by my mom for a Brandon fFowers halloween costume while singing Madness songs. "Gts", as those annoying people say.

Had a good day. My guitar teacher cancelled so I had a slow morning and then in the afternoon there was this sort of party down one of the little roads/drives/whatever near where I live. You know, small roads. I love those sorts of social things(says the confused shy introvert). there was supposed to be like seventy people there but it was more like fifty and the majority of people were either over 40 years old or under 5 years old so I was pretty stuck. The weather stayed nice for most of the afternoon and I basically just hung around being awkward while my parents talked to people. it was nice seeing all the neighbors again. Great for the young kids, too. My sister painted a pumpkin. Everyone was talking about me in high school. They had a lot of food out, all autumn-themed if you can call it that, and I basically just ate far too many cookies and brownies and stuff. there was an ice cream van. Your classic blissful October day. when it got cold someone had a thing to light a fire and we all sat around it with beach chairs. It was really very awesome. Heres to October days.

Tomorrow will mostly be homework. I'm getting more into the habit of doing some weekend homework on Fridays and Saturdays which is good. The load isn't so bad this weekend. I need to get my head around some math, learn some Spanish stuff, finish a lab and answer some questions for Science. it's do-able. I'm probably also gonna hunt down The Suburbs. I'm getting the urge to do a sort of "Arcade Fire Are So Overrated!" ramble somewhere but I need to give the album an actual listen first.

Oh yeah, we got progress reports yesterday, except I didn't get my Spanish one for some reason. But A- on Geometry and Science which I suppose is pretty accurate, if not a little too good. I also found out I got a 65% on a math test. That's a D, ladies and gentlemen. I do not understand proofs and I never will.

I can't believe I haven't blogged the whole school week. Mostly things went well. Felt pestered by the universe half the time but that wasn't the fault of the classes. My parents met my teachers. They like them, I like them too. My Geometry teacher told my parents I "am a bit shy, but we are working on her". Really? That's so unfair. Because, geometry teacher, you are definitely the first teacher in my nine years of school to have noticed this, right? it's weird. I woulda thought we could let shy people just live like normal people and do their thing, but no, they have to be tormented by every single person who thinks being quiet somehow makes you inferior. Fuck that.

Other than my 65%, Geometry's going well and we're due for a spontaneous little party on Monday for some reason. Except one day this week the teacher embarassed me so much, it was mortifying, and then I could barely feel my arms and legs if that makes sense. Science I spent most of the week completely lost, took a look at our quiz which I got into such a state about and went 'oh. this is it?". Spanish is great, we've been writing scripts all week and I'm totally the kid in the group who does nothing so it's fun. I talk to the girl next to me most of the time. it's sort of friendship I sometimes encounter where we feel similar enough that we're obligated to talk yet are both perfectly aware a true friendship will never occur. We play games and do quizzes. The classes are slow. We're doing stuff in past tense. It's only my third verb tense and it's freakin' exciting, man.

I had a mostly gym week. We're doing trust exercises, or something, and we're still in our class of 18 and it's fun most of the time. Sometimes I'm embarassed but it's okay. Friday we played a couple of older classes in a four-way dodgeball game and one of the classes were testosterone-fueled seniors who like to shout a lot. it wasn't really fair but it's the sort of game where you can get away with doing nothing.

Homework's easier but it still takes a while. Mostly I just get home, blast the Pretty Reckless cause I seem to think I'm that cool, and struggle my way through math problems until I eat dinner, read, practice instruments, attempt to blog, and sleep. It works.

To be honest, for the most part my outside school life at the moment consists of me watching Shooting Stars and eating Pot Noodle. I get the feeling that's vintage, but I'm not sure it really works.

Oh yeah, FYI, I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year. This is my second year. I did 40,000 words last year which was my goal and I succeeded although the story was basically a horrendous mashup of The Giver by Lois Lowry and what little meaning I extracted from reading 1984 as a thirteen-year-old. I really need to get planning at some point.

That My Chemical Romance song that I think is new and is called Na Na Na, or something, is quite spectacular. Even if you think you don't like MCR, please go listen. It puts Teenagers to shame.

Guess that's it, and yeah, I sound more tired than I am. Bye bye.
