freelove on the freelove freeway.

the title is from an episode of the UK office. It's one of the most well-known bits now, I've discovered, and for good reason. I'd put some research into it if you don't know it already. It. Is. Gold. Also they did a studio version of it with Noel freaking Gallagher.

The Office is my obsession. I've watched all of season 1 multiple times, and I bought season 2 today and I'm already half way through it. And it's hilarious. And I'm preeeetty pissed at the whole Tim&Rachel thing, and Gareth never stops making me laugh. Though I will concede, the story of him methodically working through a set of Top Trump cards to work out the mathematically most successful cards is...both painfully, and laughably, familiar. But I was, what, 8 at the time? I'll cling to that subtle difference because it's one thing to compare your social ability to Mark Corrigan's; it is another entirely to compare it to Gareth Keenan's.

Also I'm gonna give the Office US a go for sure. And would it be two obsessive if I also bought the French, German, Quebecois, Brazilian, Chilean, and Israeli versions? These have all tempted me. Apparently the German one in particular is pretty awesome.

It is odd, having this much time on my hands. Summer's awesome but it feels like I forget everything. Here's what I do--I read, I go on the computer, I write, I play Animal Crossing, I play piano, I watch DVDs. Life of a loser indeed.

I've read a number of books this summer. Currently I'm working on The Pact by Jodi Picoult. This is my 3rd time reading her, I think she's awesome, don't be fooled by the shitty covers and bland synopses and the fact that she's sort of thrown in a heap with Nicholas Sparks and Sarah Dessen. Though her work is currently not getting too much of my attention, but that is probably because I just finished the Great Gatsby and I thought it was absolutely fantastic and everything else looks so bad in comparison. Why do I love the books I'm supposed to like but I can never get my head around Music I'm Supposed To Like? Onto the favorites list this goes, along with The Perks of Being A Wallflower and the Bell jar and The Color Purple and the like. Hmmm. Really though, fucking genius book. I relate to Nick far too much for my own good and I think it raises super interesting questions. I know I'm reading it next year in english but I've been meaning to read it for ages and if it turns out we read it in like May I simply cannot wait that long. I'm excited for the reread only because I see no way, this time round, that I could be the only one enjoying the story. It is not possible. But, then again, I will be a sophomore. When you become a sophomore, I swear your IQ points fly our your ears.

Oh yeah, great news, I'm seeing Kaiser Chiefs in September! Them and the National the week before woohoo, I love start-of-year gigs. Plus, seeing them at V, so all is good. Cannot wait for V, by the way. Eminem oh my god, I will die of joy at Love the Way You Lie. Also, KC will have the moshpit to end all moshpits and the Arctic Monkeys are just amazing in every single way, as I'm sure I've discussed before.

Today my sister had friends round. I've finally fallen victim to that ol' high school habbit of waking up at unreasonable hours so they were there when I woke up and I had to live as a shadow in the house. my mom ordered pizza and I ate it out of sight. God, how about that? So adolescent. Then I went to my piano lesson. The summer hours are great, there's usually this vocal student who belts out the same seven-minute power ballad about 'falling apart' every week and I cannot concentrate. Now we don't clash anymore! I'm trying to play Habanera from Carmen, with little success. I'm doing my 'fun songs' from an easy classics book. My piano teacher thinks I'm mad, thinks my mom's forcing me to play those. I know very little about classical, but I do know that I'd rather be playing that than, say, Keane, y'know? After my lesson I had dinner and watched the Office.

Yesterday, too, was fun. I picked raspberries and made them into raspberry crumble. I've never had raspberry crumble before, but I'm an all-round crumble fan so you can't go wrong. Hoping to make gooseberry fool soon. Oh this just makes me think of England(three weeks!)--my dad's side of the family are throwing a party for his 50th, and my grandparents make the best desserts conceivable. Plus, the whole lot are coming, bar I believe my one cousin in Chicago. I'm actually really excited. It's what's fun about your typical English family. Small and reserved and avoid confrontation like the plague. Runs like a dream.

I've yet to find Amelie on DVD. Or to find somewhere showing Submarine. Haha look at me talking like I know shit about movies. Or 'films' should I say for some indie cred. Now let's go mainstream. Deathly Hallows in less than two weeks, eh? How about that? Who's ready to wish a final fair well to their childhood. Not me. I was 5 when the first movie came out. I don't remember that, but I do very vividly remember seeing the 2nd. I'm not a huge Potter fan, and I was thinking earlier about how fucking ostentatious the whole 2nd half of Hallows is, and yet I'm still excited. Can't wait to talk about it.

On Saturday, I got Swiss bread at a market place in town and went for a walk around the woods. In case you're wondering, no, I do not know how Swiss bread differs from all the other kinds of breads. All I know is that it tastes amazing and they have it shaped as frogs. Sunday was similarly quiet, I went to the Jack Kerouac memorial in Lowell. I've never been before but I kinda love it. I've been meaning to read On The Road for a while, actually. This has given me just motivation. Also we went on a trolly around Lowell and to an art place. It was the 3rd so it was empty.

I love the 4th! I hope I don't somehow offend anyone by saying that, me being a Brit and all. Though I suppose it's all in good fun. On the 3rd I went to the fireworks display at school. I ended up with two friends and an acquaintance. it was funny, seeing so many cars and all the people splayed across the school field and also how different it is to school and how much less I miss school than I thought I would. Don't miss it at all! After all the cars hurried away, it was just me and these couple of friends and the smoke left from the fireworks(which were awesome, by the way) and it was great fun. Friends are the only thing I miss about school. On the actual 4th, I went into town cause it's fun to wander when it's empty, then I went into Boston for the fireworks. They were every bit as awesome as I remember them from last year. I'm an introvert who likes crowds, is that weird? The show was great and I love how you move as one giant group through the streets of Boston and how chaotic it is. Also, I like to listen to Tim Minchin's White Wine In The Sun on the 4th A.) Because it's a Christmas song haha and B.) Because it somehow sounds more beautiful on the 4th than any other day of the year. No idea why.

Such is my life of the last few days. Summer is going swimmingly and I hope to blog again soon!

Friday Night. NME Playlists. Making a Spanish Study Guide.

This is what is happening right now, obviously.

I'm listening to Grouplove and they're really fun and very distracting. I love the NME for whatever reason and they put up a PLAYLISTS(playlists = fun). I need to get back into the music blog circuit, that is if I was ever any part of it, which I wasn't. Have I mentioned my growing obsession with fashion blogs? I can't explain it, seeing as I'm not a fashionable person in real life. If you'd looked at my blogroll you might have worked that out, but you didn't. my point is, they're pretty and distracting and it gets me away from chill wave and all that.

so we took the christmas decorations down yesterday and everything looks so bland, but that goes without saying. I miss Christmas already, it's pretty sad. However, if I keep telling myself it's not ac tally January, I will survive this horrid month. This week has been nothingy. I went to the mall on Sunday(need brown Aldo boots, now).

It's funny how easier things are when you're actually, y'know, doing them. Wish my perpetually anxious head would learn this. Homework was only un,manageable for, like, two days this week which is kind of odd compared to normal. And, people weren't too annoying, though I had my nose in The God Delusion whenever possible, so I guess I wouldn't know. By the way, I'm totally dragging this book out as long as possible, 'cause in an American high school it has some really amazing affects on people. By that I mean, people either see the word 'God' or 'God Delusion' and they think '..oh. okay. gonna avoid this'. And the people who normally talk about my book or to me while I'm reading, don't. It sounds like I'm a brat, and it sounds it 'cause it's true, but it's so much fun. As for the actual content of the book, it's okay, but I've heard better. there are traces of circular logic in there but he's on the right path and at least he's actually speaking out, you know? Better than everyone else. Did you know atheists are the least trusted minority in the country? Me and Richard Dawkins and the other 10-ish percent of this population, we're gonna change that! But this is an internet-generated rant for another day.

So of course right after Christmas, and we have to start getting ready*for finals. They're either on the 20th or the 21st, which is two weeks away, which is a nightmare. what's that, electricity, magnetism, parallel/series circuits? oh yeah, forgotten about you. Geometric proofs? Yeah, maybe in like October. Each and every Spanish tense I've learned this yeah? *shrugs*. I'm terrified. We took a practice Spanish final today and I knew, basically, nothing and it was very, very worrying indeed! Now I have to spend the entire weekend studying for that, have to type up a study guide, re-learn hundreds of words, and then never ever stop worrying because thank you high school, worry is an inevitability. Plus, it's not like normal life stops, oh no. Spanish quiz tuesday, math test next week, probably a science test, like this week. also, I have a final in gym of all classes. Gym! I so can't wait to get out of that class. Only about five classes left!

only good thing this weekend, my sister's going to a bat mitzvah so I can stay at home and put on Elbow really loud. By the way, Leaders of the Free World is amazing and there's only like three months until their new album, and I swear it's gonna be like Peep Show Series 7 all over again and I'm gonna count down the days because I. LOVE. ELBOW.

oh yeah, Peep Show leads me to TV! I finished all of Getting On and I loved it, naturally, although it did get randomly dark--by dark I mean really, really dark for a show which at the end of the day is a comedy show--but it has some really clever moments, and it's cool that it's written by three women, because there's a definite lack of funny women in the comedy world at the moment. then, I watched one episode of Black Adder and thought it was okay, but let's face it, outdated and not what I'm used to. really interesting to see how comedy and TV has changed.

then, I got through all four series of Mitchell and Webb. I was never that big a fan because of that damn post-apocalyptic quiz show sketch that seemed to rear its ugly head a thousand times. I never even liked it anyway! Too exaggerated! One trick pony! So it really surprised me when I went through all of the other episodes just how good, they were--really, so so good for something which could so easily be misinterpreted as a sort of odd Peep Show spinoff. The quality of the writing was extremely impressive, and you could totally hear when David was writing. Love him.(since I am female, English, and have hit puberty, this is a given). It kinda outshines all the other sketch shows I've ever seen, and almost all of the comedy shows(bar, er, one. bet you can't guess...) I've ever seen. Which is pretty amazing, and amazing how much my views of this show have changed in two weeks.

Shame I'm gonna have to suffice with David Mitchell appearing on QI and Mock The week occasionally(are these shows on at the moment?). Life is sad without him and Robert.

and uh, yeah, that's about it. I'm going to go watch something on TV and eat toast.

sigh. I'm so boring I haven't a clue why the five-ish people who read this even do. one's supposed to be yourself, and I'm sure it's all well and good saying that if hundreds of people read your pretty-looking, almost-interesting blog. I'm here embracing by wannabee version of the weird reality I'm supposed to be into. Oh, standards.

anyway. bye.

* I use 'getting ready' as a sort of euphemism.

My God I Love Biffy Clyro

Hi.

Dear Self; Stop spending forty five minutes several times a day gawking over Biffy Clyro vids. The Biff rock and Simon's hot but yeah...enough is enough.

This weekend I did homework. More or less, that is it. I was doing my homework until midnight on Friday, through Saturday morning I did homework with a quick break for a teleconference chat with my entire extended family for my grandmother's birthday(awkward and stressful and nerve wracking? um. yeah.) then I did homework through the afternoon, then I went to the mall for three hours with some friends and bought a book and a smoothie and looked at weird/creepy/trashy things in Spencers, then I came back, then I had dinner, then I did homework then I went to bed. Then I woke up then I did homework then I had lunch then I did homework then I went to Staples to buy pens then I came home then I did homework then I watched a crap movie then I came on here.

My weekend, ladies and gentlemen. you didn't need to know this but who cares?

I've been working on bridges and Newton's laws. Two projects in a weekend? It is madness. This morning while writing about inertia I was reminded of a Prodigy song--Their Law. Fuck 'em and their law. Rather appropriate at that point. my bridge is the Akashi Kaikyo bridge--longest suspension bridge in the world--and the internet and the world is totally oblivious to this. Like, there was no information. It does not exist.

I really wish school would stop wasting my weekends. Monday through Friday is whatever, but these two days? no. They're mine. To be fair I did get assigned the bridge thing on Tuesday. shouldn't have left it until now.

I need to buy Infinity Land by the Biff. I do miss Biffy. I'm trying to work out I've they've sold out or not. Part of me wants to say no because the songs are catchy and fun and require talent. And they still like to run around shirtless and collect abstract tattoos and swear inappropriately in interviews and think they're Nirvana or whatever. But part of me looks at Simon's orange skinny jeans, their short hair, and the God And Satan music video and feels more than a little let down. Oh boys. What happened?

Just say you know, my brain does sort of break into impromptu rambles about Biffy Clyro on a regular basis. If this does not appeal to you, I suggest you leave this blog.

As for school this week, Spanish is super easy and we spent the whole week preparing raps(my group spent the entire time giggling about the word "puse") and then failed hopelessly at the performance. Geometry is easy too and we got to eat cake for no reason on Friday and all we're talking about is triangles. I was convinced I was gonna fail a quiz, and then it was straightforward. In Science we're talking about Newton's Third Law and momentum. Enough said. In Gym on Tuesday we had to move our entire gym class over a 12ft wall. I did it but I was pretty easy to get over and I'm not scared of heights and I'm so weak willed that if someone tells me to be pulled over a giant wall, then I will end up doing just that. Thursday Gym was fun. it was these sort of catwalks forty feet in the air. Obviously they can't make you do that so I ended up being around a group of girls who relentlessly threw acorns at each other.

What sucks is that starting tomorrow you're supposed to help. They've some system of collecting points by helping out. You're supposed to get ten points because they need to avoid people sitting there and, y'know, throwing acorns at each other. If you don't get your points then you didn't participate enough. I don't know how strongly they will actually enforce this rule but apparently I will be getting a zero. 'cause I am not doing anything. I'm just not.

I've finally gotten around to listening to Brandon's album. it's rather good. I love Only The Young. Nice synth work, dude.

I just realised that the new season of Peep Show begins on the day of the Brandon concert. Oh dear! Brandon I love your music. Mark Corrigan I love your brain. What's a girl to do? Well obviously I payed like forty dollars for that concert so I choose Brandon...but still....it's not fair.

I think I'm addicted to run on sentences. I think it was supposed to be ironic at first. It certainly isn't anymore. The thing with irony is that a.)behind every ironic action there is definitely some non-irony and b.)if you become too hooked on it the irony becomes irony no more. see, it's weird like that.

Oh dear. I apologise there isn't much to say. I think I might read the NME then watch Shooting Stars then go to bed.

Tragic how nothing ever happens, right?

anyway. Bye bye.
