i was playing a tree trunk in a forest of fools
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci were a Welsh Britpop band from the 90s who never got as much recognition as they deserved. I assume this is the case because they incorporated mariachi brass into their music and they sang about things like playing a tree trunk in a forest of fools and joining a Spanish dance troupe because the British summer weather was shitty. I think this band discovery gets me all the indie cred.
Not the best weekend ever. It’s one of those weekends that you think is going to be good, and then it isn’t, and you feel disappointed and sad and just end up compounding the error. Hanging out with friends on Saturday was a plan that unfortunately fell apart, and so me and my mom went looking for stuff for my Halloween costume instead. I don’t know that I’ve mentioned this before, I probably have, but whatever I’m being Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd. She has a pretty generic witchy thing going on, but I’m all up for it. I really love Victorian clothes, men and women’s, especially men’s, which unfortunately will never be acceptable for me to wear, so dresses and stuff will suffice. I sort of like the idea of spending the night as an Edward Gorey character a lot. Also, I just love all things Sweeney Todd. Apparently stuff of this sort was vaguely popular in the 70s or 80s or something, says my mom, ‘cause I already have these black heels which are perfect and lacey gloves thanks to her. I need red/black tights and a dress(a dress! When did I last wear a dress?!). Also the character choice means I’ll probably need to take a stab at—horror of horrors—eye makeup, which I don’t ever wear. Still not sure about that. I love Halloween and I’ve always revelled in dressing up, and also just for looking for the pieces of a costume. I mean, if you just walk into Spencers’ and grab a sexy bunny outfit or something, whatever, up to you and I really don’t mind, but I just think half the fun of the whole event is looking through multiple places and taking individual things and watching the whole thing form piece by piece. It’s a sort of halloween passion that I don’t think many people invest in over the age of eleven or so, isn’t it? Ah well, it’s fun all the same. Apart from all the crappy halloween stores we tried, just in case, you know, and they were awful and these were Gryffindor scalves and black lipstick everywhere and, ugh. Hyper judgemental? Yes. But still!
I think I spent most of the weekend watching loads and loads of the Inbetweeners and I started reading A Hundred Years Of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which so far is quite enjoyable but also weird and slightly difficult to follow. And oh, Sunday? Mom showed me this part of a forest round here I’d never been to before, it’s amazing. For whatever reason my mom knows the nature walks round here inside –out, and believe me there is an awful lot of them. It’s...impressive? Helps with things like this.
Otherwise, I spent much of the weekend working on a bio project. It didn’t take an overly long time, not like that macromolecule project which, my god, was awful, and the info was fairly accessible. All we really had to do was create an info sheet and write a case study. I’m getting no points for aesthetics in the info sheet but the information’s there, albeit in a kind of waffly, long-winded fashion. Think I overdid it on the case study. I’m prone to either overdoing or violently undergoing projects. It was two pages long single spaced and it didn’t even make a hell of a lot of sense. Later in the week, we’re supposedly doing an activity where we use these info sheets and case studies to assign diseases. Or something. I don’t know, it sounds like the sort of thing a lot of teachers say they’ll do but never actually get around to working on. Again, we’ve been working with the microscopes(still nothing broken on my behalf, thank god) and today I looked at onion cells and my own cheek cells stained blue and it was neat. I have a quiz tomorrow on cell organelles and I know nothing about ‘em.
And, tonight is he big day with that research paper. It’s due tomorrow and I’m so screwed if I think I’ll actually have any free time tonight. So far it’s about ten pages long, I think, and I’ve edited something like three of these. And, I repeat, it’s due tomorrow. I procrastinate, but this is bad even by my standards. My teacher’s being very particular vis-à-vis citations and stuff, and just going through all of that nonsense is very much taking the majority of my time. It’s not going to be very good, but it might be adequate if I just don’t sleep tonight. The ‘just don’t sleep’ route is one I seem to favor a lot at the moment, as I’ve mentioned repeatedly.
We’re just about finishing Gatsby in English, and we have a test tomorrow. We started watching the movie a bit, too, the one from the 70s. And we watch movies an awful lot in that class so it’s the sort of thing I’ve become kind of desensitized to, and this movie I thought was patchy, not that I’m any expert on movies. Speaking of films, I watched Dead Poets Society for the first time a couple of days ago. I’d heard loads about it, so I ordered it, and then I watched it and kind of really, really didn’t like it? I’m just saying, I was surprised, given its popularity(if not critical acclaim). It felt pompous and dull and, my god, that teacher. He’s the worst kind of teacher! Why does nobody see that? If I was the kid who never said anything which, let’s face it, I pretty much am, I was thinking I’d get that teacher guy fired for fucking physically holding me in front of the class and making me talk? Cause it's humiliating and um, counts as harassment? And somehow that guy’s behavior is celebrated. Probably explains why so many teachers are so fucking terrible. The attitude to teaching is just all wrong.
Okay, I’ve essay-editing to do, bye for now.

this song is like an 80s movie
guys
this song
it's like every 80s teen movie thrown in a blender and made into a song. excuse me for thinking it's brilliant. and for writing like this is tumblr.
so, uh, school. my life. what's been happening. I can't really summarize the whole thing in a cohesive manner.
We're reading Hemingway in English which is...kind of okay. It's war stories. I have no taste in books! Let's embrace it! I spent the first week of school lost in On The Road and everything's seemed so dull since. Everything about me is an affection, eh? Again, let's skip round this point and pretend I've got anything to say. it takes a lot to interest me in a war story, and not even Hemingway has that power, generally. I wanna read his other stuff, though, cause it just seems like the sort of thing you should read, you know? However, I'm kind of okay with all of that nonsense because the class is a literary wasteland as it is. the inane teaching style continues! We're forced to write poetry about these stories. Forced to write poetry. This is something that should never, ever happen. Like, ever. Nothing good ever comes out of forced group poetry-writing sessions, and the teacher knows it. However, she does seem irritatingly willing to display this train wreck AB-rhyme scheme poetry all across the room. other than covering up the walls, which are a shade of blue reminiscent of bad bathroom design, I don't see where she's coming from on this. Oh, we draw pictures too. Despite my teacher's hope that she can suck some creativity out of before the school's collective 9:30 caffeine buzz sets in, the result is usually forty five-minute long discussions about anything else. When we get to chose our own groups, the results are usually good; I end up with two girls I sort of know and am sort of ambivalent about, and most of their discussions revolve about how 'Asian' their families are, and I nod and smile at that. And I can usually read and whatever at these times. When we don't get to choose our groups, the result is a highly tedious class filled with occasional awkward almost-conversations with people I don't know. The people around me get to class early, and are a curiously comical bunch, in a really contrived way. Think Friends. Yeah. At least, that's how they see themselves. Sigh. Luckily, we're reading Gatsby soon(finallyfinallyfinally though it's only been like three weeks) which might just be the pinnacle of my year.
Algebra is usually filled with sly, sarcastic comments on the part of everyone around me, but the teacher gives us breaks and I can read. My parents, after open house, dew scribed my teacher as 'extremely weird'. My teacher has mistakenly given me a 100.0 average in that class.
and the pseudo-politicized debates rage on in 20th century history. The focus seems more to be on current affairs than the actual 20th century. For all I hear(and ignore) politics at school and what have you, it seems very few people actually walk the walk about this stuff. the whole class tests the limits of my teacher's knowledge. Unlike most history teachers and their beliefs, who I've rarely had good experiences with, he's actually okay at not being completely biased. We're supposed to have an actual debate soon. And, we're switching seats on Monday. Maybe I won't get stuck sitting next to a bigoted, stupid person who never shuts up and shows up to class twenty minutes late to class every day and thinks it makes her look all out-there to the teacher. and maybe we'll move on from the fucking economy one of these days, because this is pretty much the only area of politics where I can summon absolutely no interest and the extended discussions about it are surely killing me.
then in bio, we do labs and talk and proteins, and I'm struck by a niggling paranoia that everyone in there hates me. no matter, I suppose. I got an above average score on a test so all is well.
At the beginning of the school year, I always react weirdly to everyone around me. I don't do camp or anything much in the summer, so I'm not very social. I'm definitely an introvert, so this works out nicely. I'm not the most introverted person you'll ever meet or any ting, but I'm definitely sort of uncommonly introverted, I would say. at least based on how people behave at school. This I reckon is the reason why, when I'm thrown back into this highly social environment, it can be sort of startling and bewildering for me. Sometimes I really rather like having people around me(granted, it's sometimes in a sort of Dean Moriarty-like way, which is shameful, but I digress), and other times I can sort of panic and all of a sudden I decide to live my life as a recluse in rural England and nevereverever see anyone ever again. I'm always at one end of the spectrum or the other, and until I can become accustomed to it again, which can take up to two months, I can go through these horrible cycles. It's...irritating. It characterizes autumn, and the beginning of school is usually cool, but it's iterating all the same. it's the main, melodramatic point of general annoyance for me at the moment. Fucking leave me alone sometimes, people.
I saw Bill Bailey recently. He's a music comedian dude. He's no Tim Minchin, but he's very smart and funny and interesting. The venue didn't sell out so our seats got upgraded! We were ten feet away! His show was sort of weird combination of a lot of topics, but it was very good so I would highly recommend it. And then it was this sort of fair thing in the center of town recently, and the stalls weren't very good buI i saw a bunch of my friends do their Show Choir thing so that was fun. We hung out downtown, then I got a bagel and a Coolata, and came home. They had music, weird Beatles cover bands and folk groups and that sort of thing. I don't like seeing people I vaguely know outside of school, but remarkably managed to tolerate it that day. also, there were puppies.
My favorite things at the moment are the Thick of It, the Inbetweeners, Kerouac, Fantasia, the National, and I'm in a weird phase where I just wanna listen to Nirvana's In Utero constantly. Man, I hadn't listened to that album in three years. It's an amazing record. Autumn's almost here! I went to a Greek festival one weekend, but all the other weekends I just watch TV and read and buy books and watch Doctor Who and hang out with friends and put off all homework until Sunday night.
That is all for now.

The summer of the Office, Animal Crossing, Nabokov, Manchester Orchestra, and Blue Raspberry Coolatas.
..and the summer of lengthy titles, it seems.
Hey all.
I've finally gotten round to listening to some people at V. Eminem mostly; I'm excited. Excitement increases with every listen to Love The Way You Lie. It's less than a month now and I cannot wait. Also, I'm going to England in six days. It's gonna be great. There's so much stuff I still miss about being there, but I guess that's to be expected. I'm spending the first week with my grandparents on my mom's side, and I think that's what I'm looking forward to most. Especially board games and Tesco curries and late night TV(Shooting Stars, please?). Ooh, the NME and radio 1 and everything, too. It's kind of surreal, really, going back, as each year I'm more and more used to living in this country instead. It makes it all the more fun, though. How I still, sadly, miss my home land.
So, summer. Que sera sera. In the most great way possible. I really don't miss school at all. I can't remember being this happy through the school year or...in a while. Ha. it's fun. Today, it was about 95 degrees and tomorrow is due to be 100 degrees. Therefore, there wasn't really that much one could comfortably do. The center of town looked dead. My mom got gooseberries so I want to make a gooseberry fool(yum) or a crumble. I went for a walk by a river near here. I listened to Bon Iver's new record again. I don't care if describing it as "endearingly beautiful" is almost sloppy writing, that's the best phrase to sum the record up with. I finished Lolita and loved it. Now I'm onto the summer reading for school. It wouldn't be something I would ever read outside of school but it looks...decent. I suppose. We'll see. it was made into a film which I should see, particularly as I should just watch more films in general. The other day I got into Lord of the Rings again, one of the only film(s) I've ever really liked. I've been into it since the Fellowship of the Ring came out, and I've secretly harbored an obsession with Aragorn ever since. Anyway.
On Wednesday I had my last piano lesson until the very last day of August. A rather strange experience. I've been doing these lessons for more than a year now. I guess I've made progress, and it's been fun. I finally mastered(well, as close to 'mastered' as I am capable of) Habanera. Love that piece. The book I'm working from is more or less just a random collection of classics aimed at my level. The next piece I picked out is by Brahms. There wasn't thought into my picking this piece because, like many pieces in this book, I wasn't familiar with it. However, whoever arranged this has good taste because upon listening to it, I've discovered it's a really wonderful piece. Is it reasonable to develop a liking for a song because you find the notes--the written notes, like if you were to take a picture of the sheet music--more aesthetically pleasing? Is that, loosely, akin to someone liking a poem based on the sound and form of the individual words? That's how I chose this piece and I suppose it's something most people must think about, even those who can't read music, but I'd never thought about it until now. Why am I in such a rambling mood tonight? Gosh.
Oh yes, I think I've mentioned to you the vocal student who's next door while I take my lessons. I'm going to keep you updated with what she sings, I think, because the event's always quite something. Not because she's particularly good, mind, but because she can belt. My god, can she belt. Through sound-proofed walls and all the force my fingers can put on the piano keys, her voice still reaches me. Now for the past few weeks she's been singing this nondescript power ballad about falling apart and that's about as fine and dandy as music like that can get while I'm trying to concentrate, but now she's playing Climb Every Mountain from the Sound of Music(I do not remember this song from this film--I only knows this cause my mother told me). Anyway, she's belting this really tough song and she has a male singing teaching who's kind of aiding her along in this startling, shrill falsetto and I'm just getting this wall of sound that sounds like pseudo opera or something. Just grin and bear it, Naomi. It's a sight. I'll keep you updated, not that you'd care.
In preparation for the inevitable board game marathons that take place with my mother and aunt every summer, I played Monopoly and other games that evening. That's been for the last few nights, now.
On Tuesday I got up fairly early and went into Boston to do about a third of the Freedom Trail. I did some of it last summer. It was another really hot day, so my mom and I had to keep stopping very frequently. Also we're cheap so we only actually went into places that are free. I love the freedom trail, I love the effort that goes into that and is one of several reasons why I think Boston as a city is highly underrated. Boston Common is another of those reasons--eating lunch round there is fun, looking out at the bustling city and what have you. I can't remember exactly the various places we visited, as after a while one meeting house blurs into another, but it was really nice roaming the city. Faneuil Hall is a particularly nice place, and the Granary Burial ground is also fun, though it was slightly unsettling that they were doing renovations there. In a cemetery with loads of famous people buried there. Huh. Oh yes, the last place we went to was Paul Revere's house, a crooked soot-black little building on a cobblestone road around Near Little Italy. It's in a part of Boston I've rarely visited, and far enough along the freedom trail that by that point the number of tourists is fairly slim. I'd have liked to have spent more time there but I was dying in the heat. I got lemonade and walked through Boston Common at Dusk. One of the best days of summer so far.
Monday was a slow day. I looked at CDs but never ended up buying anything. I feel I should start getting into vinyl collecting, but I've no idea where I'd get the music I like on vinyl. Buying vinyl online seems like the best way, but it's also ironic in a way I'm not sure I want to emulate. I also bought a t-shirt. So, yeah. My life.
This summer has been the summer of the office, animal crossing, Nabokov, Manchester Orchestra, and blue raspberry coolatas. I hope it continues this way all the way through to September because it's been great fun so far. Music-wise I'm really trying to get familiar with the V people, like I mentioned, particularly Eminem (not always the easiest to listen to), and Rihanna. Since I'm seeing them on the Sunday and I'm not particularly crazed about either, I've got to try to be as familiar as possible to make it the most fun possible. My mom contacted the friends I'm going there with and they seem excited. Oh god, nighttime headliners at the main stage is bliss. While I am extremely excited for Rihanna and Eminem, my excitement for Arctic Monkeys cannot be placed in words. Parts of myself cannot even fathom the excitement. Also, my God, kaiser Chiefs, wow. And The Script on Sunday, Wombats, Hurts, Katy B, Wolf Gang, Stornoway, Frankmusik, wow. I'll be taking dozens of CDs with me to England, it seems.
The Office obsession continues with a passion. I finally got round to watching the Christmas Special. David's song? One of the funniest things I've ever seen. What happened to Gareth with that episode? And also, Dawn&Tim was absolute perfection. This is definitely, officially, my favorite show. You heard it here first, folks. It's silver for Peep Show. If I'd told my self over the past year that peep Show wasn't my favorite show, I would be speechless. But there you go.
I'm off to watch some V Fest 2010 clips. Bye.

I'm never going to blog more frequently.
I'm never going to blog more frequently. That is just the reality of it. I thought I would, with more time on my hands this summer. Not gonna happen.
Summer is moving along at an alarmingly fast rate. We're coming very close to the middle of July; I cannot believe it. it's been very good, though, so far. Nothing really out of the usual I think to mention. I'm still obsessed with the Office, by the way. I've watched all the episodes like four times, I think. I dawned on my the other day how if the Office was never a think, but Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook were still famous, and if they got put together in a show we would all me exploding with joy in a very tumblr-like manner because they're so awesome together. We've taken for granted just how good they were in the Office. Ahhh, the Office. Okay, it feels really, seriously weird to say, but I think Peep Show's position as my favorite TV Show is being very seriously threatened. It's just hanging on in there by one or two of Mark's painfully-relatable one-liners, I think. I'm not sure what to make of this turn of events, especially because I've been obsessed non-stop with Peep Show for more than a year. That's saying something for me. I don't know. I just don't know, man. Having a mild existential crisis over a couple of TV shows is probably a bad thing.
Currently my favorite music is that of Sweeney Todd, Manchester Orcjestra(naturally), Robyn, Elbow(again, naturally), and a new addition--Laura Marling. I first listened to Laura, what, two years ago? and I wasn't terribly impressed to be honest. At the time I thought she was a fairly typical pretty girl + sadness + acoustic outfit. But no, go listen to My Manic And I. I'm not such a fan of Rambling Man but, yeah, go listen to that too. Might've taken me years to 'get' her, but it's happened. I couldn't find her first record when I looked but I'll get it at HMV in england. which reminds me, hmv is the best place in the world and I cannot wait to return there. The closing of many hmv shops is one of the saddest outcomes of the fast-dissolving music industry.
Today, I read for many hours and went for a walk and went food shopping with my mom. It's usual for it to be in the 90s around here. Very hot. I actually enjoy opressively hot. It's nice around here. I've also taken up to waking up and going to bed far later than I would like so the mornings don't really happen, but time runs away with me in the early hours of the morning.
Yesterday, Sunday, my family and I went to the museum of fine arts in boston. again it was very hot. Last time I went it was bitterly cold and fairly depressing, this time it was bright and crowded. At the moment they have this glass exhibition. Much like the glass museum I went to on the way to Niagara, I was surprised at how diverse and interesting the art was.* They had a room where the ceiling was all these flowering glass structures covered by a glass shield so the light shines through and it's like 'ooh, pretty colors shining everywhere'. Yep, my critical artistic analysis at work. we also looked at an exhibiton of two 19th century guys who did really macabre stuff, but also kinda like a fairy tale in nature. And African texiles and oh yeah something about a Japanese goddess. She was cool cause she was the goddess of knowledge of music and obviously those two are very rarely connected. A fun day. Then we went out to eat and what have you. In the restaurant my dad started talking about the shows I need to see once I get through my Office phase. Guess what? I have permission to watch The Thick of It! Fucking yes! I've seen like one episode and it was amazing and I need more but I wasn't sure my parents would allow, what with all the, to quote Malcom himself, "violent sexual imagery" in many an angry tirade. My parents are the coolest for recommending me a show because it has "all the things I like, such as foul language, sex, and generally disgraceful behavior". Woohoo!
on Saturday, I bought Bon Iver's new record. I've been hearing good things. Unfortunately I haven't gotten much of chance to listen to it yet, though. More nice weather and what have you that day.
Wednesday through Friday again were pretty nothingy. After buying the Office season two, I worked my way through the it all, as I've said, thinking it better even than the first season. The Gareth+Tim kiss, oh my god. And David begging for his job. The insignificant Tim and Dawn kiss and how depressing it was when that never worked out. But it was so, so clever that I cannot help but love it. my obsession oh my god. Gareth Keenan is the coolest. Anyway, the following day I just went clothes shopping, and I did nothing on Friday. Fun stuff.
The only thing I have to add in adition is that it turns out I'm going to a midnight showing of Hallows with my parents. Well, 12:04 technichally. I've never done a midnight showing before. This all transpired because my sister got a call from her friend, asking if she'd like to do a midnight showing of Hallows for the friend's birthday. And my sister doesn't remotetely like HP or anything really beyond skype and her the wii, so I was pretty pissed that she would be seeing it before me. I may not love Potter but I've read the damn books and have been actually looking forward to this movie. my parents were nice so they said we could get tickets--all the 2D were sold out so I have to watch fucking 3D, which I hate, but oh well. I'm excited! That's Thursday night/Friday morning. my dad thinks we should dress up as Middle Earth characters and be like 'what? this isn't the Hobbit, you say?'.
I'm off for now. Night.
*Also the artist himself is like Mad Eye Moody, from the inside out. He cannot see in one eye but, ironically, wears an eye patch rather than a glass eye. Cause, y'know, he's a glass blower? Right now I think this is mean I'm done here.
Woohoo!

Best Intentions Bring Joyless Droughts.
Forth day in a row of staying up until one oclock or later. Let's see how long this can continue.
In other words, welcome to finals week everyone!
Blogspot decided to fuck up for three days straight, which is why Thursday's post might not match up with, like, the date and stuff. I don't know how obvious that is. But there you go. Blogspot's being nice again. This is inconvenient, as I should stop listening to Elbow and work on a 50-question science review packet. This isn't going to happen tonight.
I have two days left of school. I am 1/3 done with finals. You know, finals are always absolutely bizarre. It's also the one way in which high school is worse than middle school, cause finals are crazy. And not just the manic studying and the sleep deprivation and what have you, I mean what the actual final days are like. All told, they're pretty relaxed. at least they are for the 2nd semester, as no one really cares as much this time round. I guess this is only my 2nd time with finals, but they're not something I ever see myself getting used to. it's just..odd. Especially the way you just...take a test and leave. In middle school, you actually get to say goodbye to everyone. This goodbye actually usually draws itself out over most of the month of June, actually. In high school, unless you have a super relaxed class, you only say goodbye to your friends, not the acquaintances. And you never really get to talk with your teacher, it's just like "have a good summer" as if you weren't even in the slightest way affected by the previous five months of the class. I hate it, it's mad. I'm the sort of person who needs closure over the slightest things. This is why I find final days unsettling.
I've just been in the weirdest moods for the past few days. Who knew something so trivial could make you feel so many stupid things at once? I didn't. Also, I'm absolutely the only one who feels this way. Guess what I'm gonna say for the first time ever in a blog post? I am going to miss school. There, I said it! See, I'm getting emotional over everything. "This is the last time I am in this lunch and laugh at the creepy pedophile-like teacher". "This is the last time I get a science handout back, and spend the following 90 minute class glaring at the unsatisfactory grade". "This is the last time the pothead in my art class mills around my table and knocks some one's portfolio folder to the ground in a fit of giggles". Stupid stuff like that. I've gotten like that about everything. I don't know why this is happening. Cause it shouldn't be. It's worse when it comes to people you like, though. Not friends, cause you can see them over summer or talk to them on Facebook, but those people who you sort of like and will miss, but don't really know very well. I have a lot of those. And what if we're never in a class together again? This is all I think about, and it's so saddening! I'm sure I'll come back in September and it'll feel like no time has gone by at all, but that doesn't stop any of this sentimental crap.
Okay, end unnecessary teen angst nonsense. Time to get back to school stuff. For...the last time this year. School ends tuesday. Like, woah. What will I talk to you about over summer? I've yet to decide. Probably random stuff. Or something. Anyway.
Art class is over. I had a lesson on Tuesday & Thursday, and the final 1st block on Friday. Sad? Yes. You've no idea. Funny thing is, I loathed this class. I was with two people at my table who I like, and that is what makes me regret stuff. I just drew my picture for the entire time, then started painting, and it looks bad, but I don't care anymore. We were gonna have a written final, but that never happened. I wasted time this morning, I was supposed to be doing shadows, but that never happened. We talked about my teacher's obsession with shadows. The class was half empty, as you didn't have to come in if you'd finished your drawing. I didn't finish, but half heartedly passed it in regardless. I hated my teacher so we didn't really say bye.
Health is over, too. I had that final right after art(while everyone else got to go downtown...sucks). We only had one lesson since my last post, where we just watched a documentary about bullying and then reviewed and got a little project back. Nothing much. The final today was extremely simple--100 multiple choice questions. As long as you show up to class, you're guaranteed at least a 95. I was finished within twenty minutes. I'm gonna miss this class.
After that final, I went with my friend in my health class to see her friends. We went to an area outside the auditorium and ate skittles. they're the sort of friends who are all fluent in Nerdfighter talk, and like to do little dances to demonstrate physics principles, and you're just standing there maybe they're too nerdy for you. or you're nerdy too, but in a very different way. Or maybe you're more nerdy. Basically, it was very nerdy. Plus even with the skittles it doesn't stop the area from being cold or gray or there being obnoxious junior guys with scooters. I didn't really wanna hang around, honestly, so I told my friend I was going. I'm not gonna see her again this year, apart from in passing. She's probably one of the people I've gotten closest to this year, soooo that was majorly sad. Luckily the cafeteria was bright and I found a whole bunch of people to talk to. An abundance of people, really. Plus I saw my English teacher and she called me over and she told me I was a really good writer and asked me if I wanted to be a writer some day or if she wanted to switch my schedule around so I could double up on English, and it sounds like I'm bragging but no one's ever really been that enthusiastic about my writing, so that moment rocked. it's ironic because my writing abilities go to the dogs on here. And oh yeah, grammar? Nonexistent. Anyway, I had 90 minutes to kill between then and my English final so I tried to plan for the essay while being with a few people, except the place was so busy and I moved between like four different groups of people because I wanted to see everyone. Got caught up in a theist-atheist debate at one point. Then was probably not the time to get involved in such matters.
English final was good enough. Grammar, literary devices, analyze a poem, compare two of the books we've read this year. (Talking about love and hate in Tale of Two Cities and Romeo and Juliet oh yeah my essay sucked but whatever I have like a 97% in that class). I'm glad that I'm done with that class, because it was stressful and the essays were also terrible, but I enjoyed reading the books and the people in my class were nice enough. We didn't do much all this week, just finishing up Romeo And Juliet. we had to draw a picture to represent a specific speech. And it's graded. This is not okay. Also I did a portfolio, which is four essays, in one night and stayed up late to do it and it sucked and I got a 98%. This is deserving of an evil laugh on my point.
My science final is on Monday. I'm scared senseless. I have like a 92% in that class and an A is 92.5% I will be so upset if I'm an A-. We have a full study guide for it, so hopefully things will turn out okay. As long as studying is my life this weekend. Just one more weekend, and then I'm done with studying for three months! I desperately want an A in this class, I have tried so hard. All we've talked about this week is weather. I paid too little attention. She announced class was over, and it was the most strange thing you could imagine. The class is hell and it's almost over. Never has anything in my life caused as much stress as this class. But, I'm gonna miss some people.
All we did in World Civ this week was work on our final project. It was kinda good, as I was done within two days and basically got to read and study all of Wednesday and Thursday. It's funny how no one cares anymore. Like, in the social studies computer lab the teacher has a computer and on that he can see what everyone else is doing on their computers, and in January this scared us, but now all people do is play Qwop and write messages to our teacher via this computer system, and no one thinks twice about it. It's pretty fun, too. Our final is the last one I'm gonna take, on Tuesday, though all we're gonna do is present our projects. We'll probably get done early. Definitely a good way to end this year. Have I mentioned I'm gonna miss this class like crazy? So many decent people in it. Tuesday doesn't even bear thinking about, how weird it's gonna be when I leave the place. Bizarre. After that I'm gonna (hopefully) hang out with some friends, and then we're gonna make a birthday cake for Brandon Flowers. Y'know, reliving 7th grade.
I really don't know why I'm missing everything, and everyone else is missing nothing. I don't understand.
It's good that it feels like summer for the moment now. It's Saturday now(I started writing Friday night, but took a break). I'm outside and listening to Elbow. They have a song called With Love, and it is so so so beautiful and bright, it is absolute bliss. Elbow are playing round here in September, but it's 18+. Guess that's okay. I'm hoping for them again for V in 2012. That is, if V happens in 2012. The Olympics are fucking around with a lot of the music festivals next year.
Speaking of V! They organized their lineup yesterday, so now I know who is playing on what days. They added a few more people, too. It's looking good! The only issue is that Saturday is pretty clashtastic. People really are too rude about V, though; a few good bands are better than sitting around in your house all day, right? Right! So, anyway, on Saturday, the main stage is Fun Lovin Criminals first(this could not be a more perfect way to start a fest), and then Ziggy Marley, then KT Tunstall, then Bruno Mars, then Lostprophets, then Kaiser Chiefs, then Plan B, then Arctic Monkeys. I'll stay for KT Tunstall, Lostprophets for fun, but then Kaiser Chiefs!! oh my god, Kaiser Chiefs have the main stage sunset spot--this is the best spot of the day! And I'm looking forward to them most! This is just perfect. I'm gonna go in the KC moshpit for I Predict A Riot. I'm not as interested in the 2nd stage that day, though Jessie J will be fun. It's problematic cause I wanna see Razorlight on that stage only they will clash with Plan B and I need to see him if I wanna get a good place for the Arctic Monkeys. And, trust me, AM are amazing live in small venues, so at a festival they will be phenomenal. This also clashes with Glasvegas on the 3rd stage! But I'll probably get see Katy B there earlier in the day. 4th stage'll be good with an early afternoon Alex Winston set, Frankmusik later in the day, and some Airborne Toxic Event and Gomez in the evening if I can catch them. As for Sunday, main stage is Imelda May, Squeeze, Ellie Goulding, Scouting For Girls, Manic Street Preachers, The Script, Rihanna, and Eminem. The first two are always fun, probably gonna wander for the afternoon and maybe get back for the Manics or the Script, Rihanna sucks live but whatever, and then I simply have to stay for Eminem, if only for the Love The Way You Lie duet. There's some good early afternoon stuff on the 2nd stage, then I'm gonna ignore my music elitism for some pop punk there later in the day, simply must see the Wombats, and then if I'm lucky I'll see the wonderful psychedelic 90s Trip Hop Gods that are Primal Scream doing all of Screamadelica. 3rd stage I'm definitely seeing Hurts, and would love to ironically see Duran Duran if they weren't headlining. 4th stage is good stuff throughout the day, including I Am Kloot and Stornoway. To be honest, there are clashes everyfuckingwhere but I'll live through it. Also I'm going with my usual group of people, that is my mother, my sister, my dad, my three friends, their mom, and whatever friends they bring along. It's tricky because, while everyone's up for AM on saturday, we'll be all split up over Sunday. I reckon I'll stay for Eminem, as will my mom and my other friend, my dad'll be at Primal Scream or Pendulum, and my other friends for Duran Duran. What a mess! But regardless, I'm excited. And if you actually read all of this paragraph, you are to be commended, my friend.
I reckon I'll blog here on Wednesday, to catch you up on all the various emotions and what have you after the end of my freshman year. Until then, bye.
In other words, welcome to finals week everyone!

So, Great Week.
I've had the most amazing few days, it's been brilliant. Though, I have been sleep deprived even by my sleep deprived standards. Urge to resist becoming the 'neurotic sleep deprived coffee-addicted freshman' stereotype fleeting fast.
Let's begin with today. After ten hours of sleep. First things first, amazing weather for the first time in forever. Sometimes lately I wake up and think it's March. Can't wait to wear shorts again soon. Sort of. Was reading for most of the afternoon, staying outside, then went to the mall. There's something so glorious about red shorts. And sort of burned orange shorts, too. Yay, shorts. Plus, I finally found the Sweeney Todd movie soundtrack in FYE, which I've been looking for for ages. I listened to it all afternoon, can't wait to obsessively listen to A Little Priest, there's something so pleasing about the idea of, like, being in public listening to a song about cannibalism, while everyone else around you is none the wiser. Stephen Sondheim is brilliant. I'm trying to learn some of the easy piano versions of some stuff I got for my birthday, particularly Pretty Women. One of my favorites. and I'm listening to more of the Sweeney Todd Broadway stuff...so good. Came home, was reading again, and had a piano recital(which I don't believe I've mentioned very much?) in the evening. Was surprisingly very calm though was struck with a huge headache, but I somehow worked my way through my piece. The place was filled with the usual set of eight year old child prodigies, and kids in Gap dresses with camera-waving over zealous mothers, and me. Apparently I made up for the relative simplicity of my piece with 'dynamics', but who knows. This is questionable. I had to perform in flats--ugh, I might as well perform in flip flops for all the trouble they've caused me. But oh oh oh, some guy played a piece from Amelie. Amelie. Yann Tiersen, fuck yes. He was sososo good, and the piece is gorgeous. On top of this and getting to play in this huge, magnificent, Gothic library, I got to play on an effing Steinway grand piano...I might just have to organize a sort of gang of friends to help me steal that piano, because I simply cannot return to my upright after that amazing experience. Grand pianos make my life. My mom says that maybe in a couple years, we could get a grand...just have to get good at piano first, I suppose. I would do it, for a grand.
Tomorrow is a sleep day, homework, et cetera.
Friday. Get home from school, get to go to said library to practice quickly on aforementioned piano that is the epitome of beauty in musical instruments. Had to practice in the shoes, and there's something entertaining in how they didn't match with old jeans and an Arctic Monkeys t-shirt. A piano teacher I don't know said I played beautifully, so good. Quickly come home, and went to travelling fair thing that comes to my town for two days every year. This is always an interesting, and sometimes fun, experience, though most of it is spent running around looking for lost friends rather than doing anything. I don't go on rides, so this works for me. I was much happier with this year's than I expected. I hung around with the usual groups of people, waited for them in lines, threw around someone's shoe for the hell of it...that experience ended up being almost violent, then had to look for someone's 'favorite lip gloss' in the dark. I always associate big nighttime events, such as this, with a slight feeling of sadness, even when I'm at my happiest. It's hard to describe. For the first time this year, I feel as if my freshman year is about to end...even with a month to go. Do you have any idea just how fast(how...too fast) this year has gone? I have a problem with being scared of the future, thus this is not good. I observed last night, just how many people I talked to who I didn't know in middle school. That kick started this nostalgia thing. So many good people, so many more than last year, wow. It's a weird, contrived sense of unity that probably doesn't exist in reality. No one else senses that. And I'm both shy and introverted, what do I know about the social networks of my grade? Nothing, that's what. So I'm ignorant of it, so what? I hated 6th grade, I wasn't a big fan of 7th grade, I loathed 8th grade, I hated all but about five people, at the best of times, who I was with in middle school. Even with all its separate issues, mainly concerning sleeping patterns, high school is such a step up from that. 'The best four years of my life' I certainly hope it is not, but the worst, it has not been so far. So...in between the loud Katy Perry songs, the friends, texting, people basically attacking one friend, meeting new people, talking to people I haven't talked to in ages, screaming people on rides, being cold, running around, darkness, and watching as two policemen casually ignored the weed-smoking teenagers ten feet off, this is what this night did to me. Why am I such a sentimental mess.
Thursday was good too--Arctic Monkeys concert! It was interesting to note that there was a basebell game beginning and ending at exactly the same time, and as Fenway is right next to the venue, getting in and out was a nightmare. For the first time, I really observed the extent to which some people will go for this. Never a phenomenon I have understood with sports, and never a phenomenon I will understand with the Red Sox in particular. It was me, my family, and some shy indie kids, waiting in line outside the gig while hordes of screaming drunk, red-capped lunatics ran past down the street. One feels truly alienated because this is Massachusetts culture at its most stereotyped(and, er, most true) form, yes? Anyway, it was the usual venue, and the Vaccines were supporting so I got to check out the hype around them. They always blurred into the usual oasis-wannabee bands that crop up on the NME regularly. They were alright. Post Break up Sex is a good song, but everything else...eh. Maybe it would've been cool in 2006. Anyway, 2nd time seeing the Arctics, last time they were less than dynamic, but someone fell on me and I blacked out for a couple of moments. The crowd was, dare I say, even more crazy this time round, and I was further away, so much so that I could barely see Alex(it is crucial that I see Alex. Crucial.) but no matter. They opened with something from Suck It And See(comes out in June.), then did The View From The Afternoon(headbanging, woah), Brianstorm(amaaaaazing), This House Is A Circus, Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair, Teddy Picker, Crying Lightning, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, Potion Approaching, Brick by Brick(*eyetwitch*), If You Were There Beware, Do Me A Favour, and Cornerstone. Encore was Pretty Visitors, another Suck It And See song, and the brilliant Fluorescent Adolescent. They were surprisingly more energetic this time, though they were having drum issues and Alex remains both annoyingly and adorably shy. Those were all good songs live. They played a few more new songs, sad to say they all sound fairly tame, and in particular I miss Alex's old lyrical style so much. Listen to Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not, and tell me that those words coming from a seventeen year old aren't brilliant. I dare you. Now it's so, like, bland. Can someone please, please, please, for the love of humanity keep Josh Homme away from all future Arctic Monkeys records? Because I do not want California surf pop on my Arctic Monkeys record. I'm sorry, I just don't. At least Alex had the sense to cut his hair, otherwise all hope would truly be lost. Regardless, I'm still looking forward to the record, and the concert was really good and I'm so excited to see them again in August.
Listening to them and Man Orch and Elbow lately.
So, school.
Art has proved to be beyond frustrating and boring, so I've taken to doing my homework instead of doing any work. my piece looks terrible. Next I have to paint a picture of my house. Fun.
Health, not very interesting, talking about birth control(*yawn*). It's funny how the health teachers here all think they're so liberal because they talk about condoms and whatever, but secretly they're uber conservative and they're actually reluctant to talk about birth control and just want everyone to stay virgins forever. On Thursday we had to design a 'perfect partner'(a bit personal, no?). I don't see any purpose for this. My only input was voting on hair and eye color. it doesn't bare thinking about, the activity that has been planned for this. Also, I totally need to get started on my health project.
Science began the week with an test. An 88, hmmm, better than average so I'm happy enough. I didn't study for as long as some, though, so that's ok. Now we're doing evolution, which I don't know enough about. I got my science project back, I got an 82, because my poster didn't look pretty, but how can you make a poster about 20th century biologists look good? I don't understand. I have to go outside tomorrow.
world Civ, watched videos for most of the week, most of them very dull indeed, talked about colonists, now constructing a sort of English village going into the industrial revolution. A good time for homework.
English, finally finished Tale of Two Cities and I must say, I liked it a lot. We did that and grammar and analysis all week, then watched some of the movie on Thursday...which was average at best. Ah well. Did another couple of fishbowls, finally got 100% on at least one, so I suppose I'm improving. My teacher was out Friday, so we watched the movie the entire time! Bliss.
Doctor Who. Weird but good this week. Had a bad headache so didn't pay as much attention as I would've liked. Interesting idea. My only other comment is this: yay, Rory, congrats on not dying.
Anyway, I've gotta write about whether pre marital sex is okay, so goodnight.

relatively quick and messy post
Science quiz to study for (stressed? Why, of course) but I haven't blogged in a while. So this is gonna be a relatively quick and messy post. More messy than my messier-than-messy usual blogging style, anyway.
Weekend was wonderful! Started studying and the like--Saturday was a really, really nice day, went for a walk and some friends came round to watch the new Doctor Who episode. The episode was great, plus my friends are wonderful, and they like to play Qwop and go on Chatroulette and give STDs to my furniture. As for the episode, it was as great as I've come to expect. Thoughts--#1 PIRATES. I love pirates. Pirates are the best. Yes, pirates. #2. I want Amy's pirate coat thing...it's swishy and gray and unisex. I love all things swishy and gray and unisex, don't you know. #3. Lily Cole was every bit as boring as the witch demon thing as I'd expected...go back to just being a model, please. #4 Why does Rory fail so much at...adventures? Like, you'd have thought he'd have picked up some Doctor Who survival tips by now, but noooo, he just goes and gets himself killed by doing stupid stuff every other episode, and then through some inexplicable turn of events, he is revived. Some time soon when Rory dies, I want the Doctor to just be like ...'y'know what? fuck it. I'm done with this. Come on Amy, we're off, I'm done with this idiot'. See, I really do have a very serious case of If It's Doctor Who Without David Tennant and Billie Piper Then I Hate Everyone Involved. Which is...not good, but I can't help it. #5 Moffat is sooo good, we're three episodes in and I'm loving these plot lines more than I did in the last series. #6 I thought the whole concept of the Black Spot was really good...reminds me of something, though. it's probably super obvious but I can't remember. #7. The Tardis acting of its own accord...like woah, weird. #8. Totally didn't know what was going on towards the end with the hospital thing. #9. No River Song in this episode? Shame, I would've wanted her to be more of a regular this series round. #10. AMY, ARE YOU PREGNANT ARE NOT? LIKE, WHAT IS GOING ON?
Sunday I went to a Steampunk Festival with my family. Great fun, loads of hipsters in ripped tights and combat boots and the like. Got an overpriced but lovely nonetheless doll necklace. Because everyone needs a creepy doll necklace, no?
Health--Talking about AIDs again and again and again, over and over and over again. Got started on my Bipolar project, which is proving to be interesting enough so far...it's a shame the Secret Life of the Manic Depressive documentary isn't online in full. I hear it's a really good documentary, very informative and the like, plus it's got Stephen Fry in it! For one thing, Stephen Fry is delightful in just about any situation, but because he really doesn't talk about his Bipolar, it'd be very insightful indeed. Damn copyright laws, right? And apparently Jo Brand and Carrie Fisher, whom I both really like, are featured in the documentary too. It won awards! Damn you Youtube! Anyway in health today some cops came in with drug dogs(two Germany shepherds! I love German Shepherds.) talked about the usual drugs are bad etc. etc. etc. and then watched the dog go for one of the guy's arms. Fun. But cold first thing in the morning.
Art--I did nothing all week. Nothing whatsoever. I couldn't think of anything for the new project so I twiddled my thumbs and read and listened to the endless stream of stupid conversations that people at my table like to have. I have to come up with a theme tonight--four things that go together in a theme. Book covers? Album covers? Jesus, I don't know. I don't want to do this class right now. I get headaches and put everything off to the last minute and I just want to do homework instead of doing art.
Science--Taxonomy, going through all the phylums, looking at specimens of each(Worms! So many worms! I can handle just about any organism on the planet...apart from worms. That wasn't a good moment). We had a sub a few days ago so we just did a handout the entire time...and better yet, last week we had a firedrill right as the teacher was about to start talking! Fantastic! Everyone had resorted to despising this class. The hate that flows from my peers(and to some extent, me) is unprecedented in my school career so far. Like, when we had the sub, someone said "I die everytime I'm walking in the hallway to get to this class. And now...it feels like I've been reborn". And people sort of waved their hands and lost their minds like they'd just won an an award or something. Very confusing! But funny too. No one can even be bothered to hide their hate anymore. The teacher walks around and we openly discuss to our neighbors how we hate this class. I hate this class, I hate this class, and I fall asleep every day. Really. Plus, I have to worry about like I don't know, actually legitimately not failing quizzes. Most of the time in most science classes, if you at least shop up to class and stay awake, you're guaranteed to get at least a D-. Not in this class. Anything more than a 75 then you're labelled a genius. Rightfully so, to be honest. I typed up a sort of study guide for this quiz. Nine pages. Nine. And this was the most condensed version I could come up with. Nine pages, I know nothing, I understand nothing, I have no time for studying tomorrow or Wednesday, and if I don't convince my mother that I should get a day off school to study under the guise of 'I WILL HAVE A PSYCHOTIC MELTDOWN IF I GO TO SCHOOL TODAY'(I say guise when really...this isn't too hyperbolic), then I will...I...I don't even know. This is insane, guys. Absolutely fucking crazy. Lord help me, I'm losing my mind thanks to a science teacher.
Renaissance in World Civ! Finally! Blaise Pascal and Martin Luther and Da Vinci and yesyesyesyes so much fun! We got to watch a documentary about Martin Luther friday and today. He's genuinely one of my favorite historical figures of all time, so I really enjoyed how much we talked about that. We took a few notes and such. I barely consider World Civ a 'proper' class, it's such a breeze. Though--sigh--we'll probably get yet another project again soon...ugh, so many projects.
English! Tale of Two Cities! Vocab, analysis, looking for details that I'm pretty sure don't exist. Usually, I actually prefer reading books in class than reading them outside, for some reason. But this...this is just killing this book for me. I know, I just know, that if I was reading this outside of school, I would really like it. But in school there's so much pressure, not to mention so much homework and debating and things. My teacher takes being pretentious about books to a whole other extreme, trust me. Her and her unecesserily extensive dictionaries and Catcher In The Rye poster and fucking Wordsworth paperweights. Admittedly my comprehension of books is really shabby but this is just testing this too much. Oh and did I mention she never stops talking about the SATs. I just want to scream "I'm 15! We're freshman! Stop with this! We don't care! We shouldn't be expected to care! Stop!" Sighsighsigh. And I still have Tale of Two Cities questions tonight, no big deal. I'm gonna totally get the answers waaaay off from whatever Mr. Dickens intended(sorry Charles.) and we're probably gonna do a fishbowl tomorrow and she's gonna be like 'Why didn't you speak, Naomi?" and I'll be thinking "really, is the point of human communication to just ramble off about whatever nonsense pops into your mind? NO. NONONO. Because if you want me to just talk about the first thing that pops into my head then, yeah, I can do that, but as for it contributing to any sort of 'debate' about Syndey Carton or whatever, I can't guarantee that's gonna happen. So shall I just stay silent?". But really I'll just say 'I...don't know. I didn't have anything to say". And I don't know why I do well on essays or why I got 100% on my portfolio or why grammar comes naturally to me, sorta; BUT, I do know that I am going to analyze this book to death.
And then my angst makes me, like explode. Really. I heard someone say today "Science last block is so boring that it fells like I'm going to...explode" and I was thinking 'yes, I'm using that'. so that's what happens, everyone--I will explode.
Oh yeah, seeing Manchester Orchestra w/ Cage the Elephant tomorrow. Excited? YES. New MO stuff is so good, and I've decided Mean Everything to Nothing is one of my favorite albums. I'm not so familiar with CtE but I really like the new album and the one from a couple years ago(debut? not sure.) is okay too. Why CtE are opening for manchester Orchestra, and not the other way round, I will never quite understand. Sometimes at this venue the openers do signings after. Metting Cage the Elephant? I would die of happiness. Can you comprehend how adorasble Matt Shultz is? pfft, I doubt it. I'm so excited.
Also, I might be seeing Richard III in London over the summer with my mom and aunt. I don't really see plays very often...apparently both my parents 'had seen some Shakespeare when they were my age' so...I wanna go. But I wanna read Hamlet, really, and Macbeth, more than Richard III. Suppose I should read it first. Oh I'm so excited that I just might be becoming my English teacher.
I have plant anatomy to try and fail to understand. Good night everyone.
