Forth day in a row of staying up until one oclock or later. Let's see how long this can continue.
In other words, welcome to finals week everyone!
Blogspot decided to fuck up for three days straight, which is why Thursday's post might not match up with, like, the date and stuff. I don't know how obvious that is. But there you go. Blogspot's being nice again. This is inconvenient, as I should stop listening to Elbow and work on a 50-question science review packet. This isn't going to happen tonight.
I have two days left of school. I am 1/3 done with finals. You know, finals are always absolutely bizarre. It's also the one way in which high school is worse than middle school, cause finals are crazy. And not just the manic studying and the sleep deprivation and what have you, I mean what the actual final days are like. All told, they're pretty relaxed. at least they are for the 2nd semester, as no one really cares as much this time round. I guess this is only my 2nd time with finals, but they're not something I ever see myself getting used to. it's just..odd. Especially the way you just...take a test and leave. In middle school, you actually get to say goodbye to everyone. This goodbye actually usually draws itself out over most of the month of June, actually. In high school, unless you have a super relaxed class, you only say goodbye to your friends, not the acquaintances. And you never really get to talk with your teacher, it's just like "have a good summer" as if you weren't even in the slightest way affected by the previous five months of the class. I hate it, it's mad. I'm the sort of person who needs closure over the slightest things. This is why I find final days unsettling.
I've just been in the weirdest moods for the past few days. Who knew something so trivial could make you feel so many stupid things at once? I didn't. Also, I'm absolutely the only one who feels this way. Guess what I'm gonna say for the first time ever in a blog post? I am going to miss school. There, I said it! See, I'm getting emotional over everything. "This is the last time I am in this lunch and laugh at the creepy pedophile-like teacher". "This is the last time I get a science handout back, and spend the following 90 minute class glaring at the unsatisfactory grade". "This is the last time the pothead in my art class mills around my table and knocks some one's portfolio folder to the ground in a fit of giggles". Stupid stuff like that. I've gotten like that about everything. I don't know why this is happening. Cause it shouldn't be. It's worse when it comes to people you like, though. Not friends, cause you can see them over summer or talk to them on Facebook, but those people who you sort of like and will miss, but don't really know very well. I have a lot of those. And what if we're never in a class together again? This is all I think about, and it's so saddening! I'm sure I'll come back in September and it'll feel like no time has gone by at all, but that doesn't stop any of this sentimental crap.
Okay, end unnecessary teen angst nonsense. Time to get back to school stuff. For...the last time this year. School ends tuesday. Like, woah. What will I talk to you about over summer? I've yet to decide. Probably random stuff. Or something. Anyway.
Art class is over. I had a lesson on Tuesday & Thursday, and the final 1st block on Friday. Sad? Yes. You've no idea. Funny thing is, I loathed this class. I was with two people at my table who I like, and that is what makes me regret stuff. I just drew my picture for the entire time, then started painting, and it looks bad, but I don't care anymore. We were gonna have a written final, but that never happened. I wasted time this morning, I was supposed to be doing shadows, but that never happened. We talked about my teacher's obsession with shadows. The class was half empty, as you didn't have to come in if you'd finished your drawing. I didn't finish, but half heartedly passed it in regardless. I hated my teacher so we didn't really say bye.
Health is over, too. I had that final right after art(while everyone else got to go downtown...sucks). We only had one lesson since my last post, where we just watched a documentary about bullying and then reviewed and got a little project back. Nothing much. The final today was extremely simple--100 multiple choice questions. As long as you show up to class, you're guaranteed at least a 95. I was finished within twenty minutes. I'm gonna miss this class.
After that final, I went with my friend in my health class to see her friends. We went to an area outside the auditorium and ate skittles. they're the sort of friends who are all fluent in Nerdfighter talk, and like to do little dances to demonstrate physics principles, and you're just standing there maybe they're too nerdy for you. or you're nerdy too, but in a very different way. Or maybe you're more nerdy. Basically, it was very nerdy. Plus even with the skittles it doesn't stop the area from being cold or gray or there being obnoxious junior guys with scooters. I didn't really wanna hang around, honestly, so I told my friend I was going. I'm not gonna see her again this year, apart from in passing. She's probably one of the people I've gotten closest to this year, soooo that was majorly sad. Luckily the cafeteria was bright and I found a whole bunch of people to talk to. An abundance of people, really. Plus I saw my English teacher and she called me over and she told me I was a really good writer and asked me if I wanted to be a writer some day or if she wanted to switch my schedule around so I could double up on English, and it sounds like I'm bragging but no one's ever really been that enthusiastic about my writing, so that moment rocked. it's ironic because my writing abilities go to the dogs on here. And oh yeah, grammar? Nonexistent. Anyway, I had 90 minutes to kill between then and my English final so I tried to plan for the essay while being with a few people, except the place was so busy and I moved between like four different groups of people because I wanted to see everyone. Got caught up in a theist-atheist debate at one point. Then was probably not the time to get involved in such matters.
English final was good enough. Grammar, literary devices, analyze a poem, compare two of the books we've read this year. (Talking about love and hate in Tale of Two Cities and Romeo and Juliet oh yeah my essay sucked but whatever I have like a 97% in that class). I'm glad that I'm done with that class, because it was stressful and the essays were also terrible, but I enjoyed reading the books and the people in my class were nice enough. We didn't do much all this week, just finishing up Romeo And Juliet. we had to draw a picture to represent a specific speech. And it's graded. This is not okay. Also I did a portfolio, which is four essays, in one night and stayed up late to do it and it sucked and I got a 98%. This is deserving of an evil laugh on my point.
My science final is on Monday. I'm scared senseless. I have like a 92% in that class and an A is 92.5% I will be so upset if I'm an A-. We have a full study guide for it, so hopefully things will turn out okay. As long as studying is my life this weekend. Just one more weekend, and then I'm done with studying for three months! I desperately want an A in this class, I have tried so hard. All we've talked about this week is weather. I paid too little attention. She announced class was over, and it was the most strange thing you could imagine. The class is hell and it's almost over. Never has anything in my life caused as much stress as this class. But, I'm gonna miss some people.
All we did in World Civ this week was work on our final project. It was kinda good, as I was done within two days and basically got to read and study all of Wednesday and Thursday. It's funny how no one cares anymore. Like, in the social studies computer lab the teacher has a computer and on that he can see what everyone else is doing on their computers, and in January this scared us, but now all people do is play Qwop and write messages to our teacher via this computer system, and no one thinks twice about it. It's pretty fun, too. Our final is the last one I'm gonna take, on Tuesday, though all we're gonna do is present our projects. We'll probably get done early. Definitely a good way to end this year. Have I mentioned I'm gonna miss this class like crazy? So many decent people in it. Tuesday doesn't even bear thinking about, how weird it's gonna be when I leave the place. Bizarre. After that I'm gonna (hopefully) hang out with some friends, and then we're gonna make a birthday cake for Brandon Flowers. Y'know, reliving 7th grade.
I really don't know why I'm missing everything, and everyone else is missing nothing. I don't understand.
It's good that it feels like summer for the moment now. It's Saturday now(I started writing Friday night, but took a break). I'm outside and listening to Elbow. They have a song called With Love, and it is so so so beautiful and bright, it is absolute bliss. Elbow are playing round here in September, but it's 18+. Guess that's okay. I'm hoping for them again for V in 2012. That is, if V happens in 2012. The Olympics are fucking around with a lot of the music festivals next year.
Speaking of V! They organized their lineup yesterday, so now I know who is playing on what days. They added a few more people, too. It's looking good! The only issue is that Saturday is pretty clashtastic. People really are too rude about V, though; a few good bands are better than sitting around in your house all day, right? Right! So, anyway, on Saturday, the main stage is Fun Lovin Criminals first(this could not be a more perfect way to start a fest), and then Ziggy Marley, then KT Tunstall, then Bruno Mars, then Lostprophets, then Kaiser Chiefs, then Plan B, then Arctic Monkeys. I'll stay for KT Tunstall, Lostprophets for fun, but then Kaiser Chiefs!! oh my god, Kaiser Chiefs have the main stage sunset spot--this is the best spot of the day! And I'm looking forward to them most! This is just perfect. I'm gonna go in the KC moshpit for I Predict A Riot. I'm not as interested in the 2nd stage that day, though Jessie J will be fun. It's problematic cause I wanna see Razorlight on that stage only they will clash with Plan B and I need to see him if I wanna get a good place for the Arctic Monkeys. And, trust me, AM are amazing live in small venues, so at a festival they will be phenomenal. This also clashes with Glasvegas on the 3rd stage! But I'll probably get see Katy B there earlier in the day. 4th stage'll be good with an early afternoon Alex Winston set, Frankmusik later in the day, and some Airborne Toxic Event and Gomez in the evening if I can catch them. As for Sunday, main stage is Imelda May, Squeeze, Ellie Goulding, Scouting For Girls, Manic Street Preachers, The Script, Rihanna, and Eminem. The first two are always fun, probably gonna wander for the afternoon and maybe get back for the Manics or the Script, Rihanna sucks live but whatever, and then I simply have to stay for Eminem, if only for the Love The Way You Lie duet. There's some good early afternoon stuff on the 2nd stage, then I'm gonna ignore my music elitism for some pop punk there later in the day, simply must see the Wombats, and then if I'm lucky I'll see the wonderful psychedelic 90s Trip Hop Gods that are Primal Scream doing all of Screamadelica. 3rd stage I'm definitely seeing Hurts, and would love to ironically see Duran Duran if they weren't headlining. 4th stage is good stuff throughout the day, including I Am Kloot and Stornoway. To be honest, there are clashes everyfuckingwhere but I'll live through it. Also I'm going with my usual group of people, that is my mother, my sister, my dad, my three friends, their mom, and whatever friends they bring along. It's tricky because, while everyone's up for AM on saturday, we'll be all split up over Sunday. I reckon I'll stay for Eminem, as will my mom and my other friend, my dad'll be at Primal Scream or Pendulum, and my other friends for Duran Duran. What a mess! But regardless, I'm excited. And if you actually read all of this paragraph, you are to be commended, my friend.
I reckon I'll blog here on Wednesday, to catch you up on all the various emotions and what have you after the end of my freshman year. Until then, bye.

Hey There, Sister Wife.
The title is of no relevance to anything...it's an Alex Winston song. It's not amazing but it makes me happy.
most amazing day in ages.
It was the Seniors' Last day on friday, so most of the inanity of high school life was intermittently interrupted with parades of screaming, shouting, shirtlessness, and general obnoxiousness. Ah, what do you expect. Health was boring--a quiz, then several people's projects. I read through most of it. Science, nothing, my teacher talked about turtles and how she wants to be reincarnated as a groundhog, then she was forced to reel herself back in and talk about evolution or whatever. (pfft, all that natural selection shit, who needs to know that when you can talk about the complications of domesticizing a bear?). Lunch was interesting too, though the senior prank was weak. Stealing all the chairs from the cafeteria, really? Then throwing water balloons and confetti everywhere. Hmm, I'm not impressed. At least it got me outside for a while...all seniors dressed for the beach, and blasting Katy Perry somewhere. Fun? I don't think the other non-seniors enjoyed this, but I did, in my quiet, distant way. World Civ, we talked about slaves and whatever, nothing interesting. English, we went over poetry(next unit. Not too excited) and edited these Tale of Two Cities essays we've had to do. So I got stuck with the writing prodigy, but she's cool and that's okay...I don't really have any proper like friendfriends in English--like her and one other girl I'm familiar with. Good enough. At about 1:30, a stampede of seniors made their way through every hallway...one guy had a vuvuzela(ah, remember last July? Time flies.), another decided to walk into my room, blow a whistle, and then leave. We joked that if someone were to peek out into the hallway, they would be rapidly pulled out into the flow of the crowd, like in a cartoon or whatever. There was a noticeable difference when they'd left. The seniors are gone...no more seniors...three and a half weeks left for me. Shit, guys, this year is almost over. Shit.
Evening was a amazing. A couple of friends and myself spontaneously decided to go downtown for the night. it was the usual--saw a few people, saw some drunk seniors screaming out of cars, saw about a dozen policeman hanging around looking out for said drunk seniors. We went to CVS, ate out in Bertuccis, walked around, I rang a giant bell after like ten tries, then hung around like the creepy teenagers we are in a deserted, gorgeous Catholic Church. Oh my god, the night was amazing and it feels like summer and I love it all. Life is wonderful. I will die over summer if I don't see these amazing people enough--that is all.
So yeah, it's also hot here for the first time. It's really hot and it's late-ish. Hello, summer, nice to see my favorite season again. It's been too long, too much rain and snow. I don't think it's very, y'know, cool to say summer is your favorite season...but whatever.
School. Health! Nothing out of the usual. I have my Bipolar project due Wednesday, but it was moved to Friday due to mid-week state tests. Yay, since I haven't exactly started it yet. it was the usual talking about birth control this week, the teacher obviously struggling to counterbalance the requirement to talk about that stuff, when really she wants to scream at us to just not have sex. Ha. In addition, I have decided that it is impossible for anyone to become so mature, that seeing someone put a condom over their arm(while asking you to write down a list of 'steps') is no longer funny. Really. We followed up an activity we did the week prior, where we draw a 'perfect partner'. Turns out, we did this because 'if we do not know what we want now, we will never get it'. Kinda confused, as I thought we were basically being told not to look for anything? Huh.
Art, nothing out of the usual, more focused on doing butterfly painting things on my folder than working on my actual art project. However, there are no longer any insipid, stupid conversations for me to secretly laugh at, because some guy that everyone hates has joined our table(he wanted to be away from the potheads at his previous table) and the girls at my table want to be mildly unpleasant to him. Turns out, he's nowhere near as annoying as the regulars at my table are, so whatever. He's actually a decent person, the others are the weird ones.
Science, we're doing this huge group project that counts for 6% of the total grade. Six percent! Luckily it's easy, and if I do well on this and do well on the final, I'm basically guaranteed an A. The people in my group are mildly irritating(and I'm supposed to be feigning friendship with two of them)and I don't wanna write about trees or whatever. Le sigh. We went out for the last time to our environmental area some time during the week. It threatened to rain the whole time, but it never quite got there luckily. But it was still cold then, and wet, and it wasn't fun. Also I have to do physical science state tests next Wednesday and I know nothing.
World Civ has been extraordinarily dull this week...we finished some activity from a previous week, watched a movie about colonists, and talked about types of colonies. my god, this is so far away from the history stuff that interests me. My teacher kind of rambles a bit, but remarkably he manages to ramble about the same shit at different parts of the class and never notices. I took a quiz on this stuff at some point, but I honestly had no clue about anything...first failed world civ quiz? I think so. I'm failing a lot lately, I've given up on school. Now we have to talk about slavery, and we're not allowed to be even remotely cheery about it. And we have to watch a shit movie about it. So many movies in this class.
English, finally finishing up Tale of Two Cities. This week's been a blur. Grammar, grammar, so much grammar, test on Tuesday + I know nothing. The essay wasn't fun...but we got all of Thursday to write it in class, which made for an exceptionally pleasant class. A few more fishbowl activites, one I got 100% on, the other 85%. My teacher's been impressed with my stuff lately, I guess I really 'got' Tale of Two Cities. I wasn't very good--everyone else was just very bad. They hadn't a clue what was going on. Literary skills by proxy? I guess so. But not really...and now there's more pressure for the damn essay. Also, we start Romeo and Juliet next week. For preparation, I have to spend the weekend analyzing shitty haikus. Ugh.
Not a whole lot else to report for this week. It's a long weekend which I hope to spend well. No Doctor Who this weekend. Listening to CocoRosie and reading Plath. It's been good, though.
Tim Minchin next Saturday, too.
Anyway, night.

So, Great Week.
I've had the most amazing few days, it's been brilliant. Though, I have been sleep deprived even by my sleep deprived standards. Urge to resist becoming the 'neurotic sleep deprived coffee-addicted freshman' stereotype fleeting fast.
Let's begin with today. After ten hours of sleep. First things first, amazing weather for the first time in forever. Sometimes lately I wake up and think it's March. Can't wait to wear shorts again soon. Sort of. Was reading for most of the afternoon, staying outside, then went to the mall. There's something so glorious about red shorts. And sort of burned orange shorts, too. Yay, shorts. Plus, I finally found the Sweeney Todd movie soundtrack in FYE, which I've been looking for for ages. I listened to it all afternoon, can't wait to obsessively listen to A Little Priest, there's something so pleasing about the idea of, like, being in public listening to a song about cannibalism, while everyone else around you is none the wiser. Stephen Sondheim is brilliant. I'm trying to learn some of the easy piano versions of some stuff I got for my birthday, particularly Pretty Women. One of my favorites. and I'm listening to more of the Sweeney Todd Broadway stuff...so good. Came home, was reading again, and had a piano recital(which I don't believe I've mentioned very much?) in the evening. Was surprisingly very calm though was struck with a huge headache, but I somehow worked my way through my piece. The place was filled with the usual set of eight year old child prodigies, and kids in Gap dresses with camera-waving over zealous mothers, and me. Apparently I made up for the relative simplicity of my piece with 'dynamics', but who knows. This is questionable. I had to perform in flats--ugh, I might as well perform in flip flops for all the trouble they've caused me. But oh oh oh, some guy played a piece from Amelie. Amelie. Yann Tiersen, fuck yes. He was sososo good, and the piece is gorgeous. On top of this and getting to play in this huge, magnificent, Gothic library, I got to play on an effing Steinway grand piano...I might just have to organize a sort of gang of friends to help me steal that piano, because I simply cannot return to my upright after that amazing experience. Grand pianos make my life. My mom says that maybe in a couple years, we could get a grand...just have to get good at piano first, I suppose. I would do it, for a grand.
Tomorrow is a sleep day, homework, et cetera.
Friday. Get home from school, get to go to said library to practice quickly on aforementioned piano that is the epitome of beauty in musical instruments. Had to practice in the shoes, and there's something entertaining in how they didn't match with old jeans and an Arctic Monkeys t-shirt. A piano teacher I don't know said I played beautifully, so good. Quickly come home, and went to travelling fair thing that comes to my town for two days every year. This is always an interesting, and sometimes fun, experience, though most of it is spent running around looking for lost friends rather than doing anything. I don't go on rides, so this works for me. I was much happier with this year's than I expected. I hung around with the usual groups of people, waited for them in lines, threw around someone's shoe for the hell of it...that experience ended up being almost violent, then had to look for someone's 'favorite lip gloss' in the dark. I always associate big nighttime events, such as this, with a slight feeling of sadness, even when I'm at my happiest. It's hard to describe. For the first time this year, I feel as if my freshman year is about to end...even with a month to go. Do you have any idea just how fast(how...too fast) this year has gone? I have a problem with being scared of the future, thus this is not good. I observed last night, just how many people I talked to who I didn't know in middle school. That kick started this nostalgia thing. So many good people, so many more than last year, wow. It's a weird, contrived sense of unity that probably doesn't exist in reality. No one else senses that. And I'm both shy and introverted, what do I know about the social networks of my grade? Nothing, that's what. So I'm ignorant of it, so what? I hated 6th grade, I wasn't a big fan of 7th grade, I loathed 8th grade, I hated all but about five people, at the best of times, who I was with in middle school. Even with all its separate issues, mainly concerning sleeping patterns, high school is such a step up from that. 'The best four years of my life' I certainly hope it is not, but the worst, it has not been so far. So...in between the loud Katy Perry songs, the friends, texting, people basically attacking one friend, meeting new people, talking to people I haven't talked to in ages, screaming people on rides, being cold, running around, darkness, and watching as two policemen casually ignored the weed-smoking teenagers ten feet off, this is what this night did to me. Why am I such a sentimental mess.
Thursday was good too--Arctic Monkeys concert! It was interesting to note that there was a basebell game beginning and ending at exactly the same time, and as Fenway is right next to the venue, getting in and out was a nightmare. For the first time, I really observed the extent to which some people will go for this. Never a phenomenon I have understood with sports, and never a phenomenon I will understand with the Red Sox in particular. It was me, my family, and some shy indie kids, waiting in line outside the gig while hordes of screaming drunk, red-capped lunatics ran past down the street. One feels truly alienated because this is Massachusetts culture at its most stereotyped(and, er, most true) form, yes? Anyway, it was the usual venue, and the Vaccines were supporting so I got to check out the hype around them. They always blurred into the usual oasis-wannabee bands that crop up on the NME regularly. They were alright. Post Break up Sex is a good song, but everything else...eh. Maybe it would've been cool in 2006. Anyway, 2nd time seeing the Arctics, last time they were less than dynamic, but someone fell on me and I blacked out for a couple of moments. The crowd was, dare I say, even more crazy this time round, and I was further away, so much so that I could barely see Alex(it is crucial that I see Alex. Crucial.) but no matter. They opened with something from Suck It And See(comes out in June.), then did The View From The Afternoon(headbanging, woah), Brianstorm(amaaaaazing), This House Is A Circus, Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair, Teddy Picker, Crying Lightning, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, Potion Approaching, Brick by Brick(*eyetwitch*), If You Were There Beware, Do Me A Favour, and Cornerstone. Encore was Pretty Visitors, another Suck It And See song, and the brilliant Fluorescent Adolescent. They were surprisingly more energetic this time, though they were having drum issues and Alex remains both annoyingly and adorably shy. Those were all good songs live. They played a few more new songs, sad to say they all sound fairly tame, and in particular I miss Alex's old lyrical style so much. Listen to Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not, and tell me that those words coming from a seventeen year old aren't brilliant. I dare you. Now it's so, like, bland. Can someone please, please, please, for the love of humanity keep Josh Homme away from all future Arctic Monkeys records? Because I do not want California surf pop on my Arctic Monkeys record. I'm sorry, I just don't. At least Alex had the sense to cut his hair, otherwise all hope would truly be lost. Regardless, I'm still looking forward to the record, and the concert was really good and I'm so excited to see them again in August.
Listening to them and Man Orch and Elbow lately.
So, school.
Art has proved to be beyond frustrating and boring, so I've taken to doing my homework instead of doing any work. my piece looks terrible. Next I have to paint a picture of my house. Fun.
Health, not very interesting, talking about birth control(*yawn*). It's funny how the health teachers here all think they're so liberal because they talk about condoms and whatever, but secretly they're uber conservative and they're actually reluctant to talk about birth control and just want everyone to stay virgins forever. On Thursday we had to design a 'perfect partner'(a bit personal, no?). I don't see any purpose for this. My only input was voting on hair and eye color. it doesn't bare thinking about, the activity that has been planned for this. Also, I totally need to get started on my health project.
Science began the week with an test. An 88, hmmm, better than average so I'm happy enough. I didn't study for as long as some, though, so that's ok. Now we're doing evolution, which I don't know enough about. I got my science project back, I got an 82, because my poster didn't look pretty, but how can you make a poster about 20th century biologists look good? I don't understand. I have to go outside tomorrow.
world Civ, watched videos for most of the week, most of them very dull indeed, talked about colonists, now constructing a sort of English village going into the industrial revolution. A good time for homework.
English, finally finished Tale of Two Cities and I must say, I liked it a lot. We did that and grammar and analysis all week, then watched some of the movie on Thursday...which was average at best. Ah well. Did another couple of fishbowls, finally got 100% on at least one, so I suppose I'm improving. My teacher was out Friday, so we watched the movie the entire time! Bliss.
Doctor Who. Weird but good this week. Had a bad headache so didn't pay as much attention as I would've liked. Interesting idea. My only other comment is this: yay, Rory, congrats on not dying.
Anyway, I've gotta write about whether pre marital sex is okay, so goodnight.
Tired To The Point of Passing Out + Birthday Stuff + School
Lucky it's been a fairly manageable couple of days back at school so far. Only a few minor upsets, and that's just the usual stuff. The birthday(15. gosh) was absolutely wonderful of course and I'm happy with all the stuff I got.
Run through time, no?
I got the expected group of CDs, with a couple of them still in the mail, most of them people at V. Hurts(Happiness), KT Tunstall(Tiger Still), Rihanna(Loud), Eminem(Recovery), The Kills(Blood Pressures), Kele(Boxer), Elbow(Build A Rocket Buys! finally!) Courteeners(St. Jude), Primal Scream(Screamadelica), PJ Harvey(Let England Shake), The Script(Science & faith), and the Submarine soundtrack. Seeing as I've been a tad preoccupied with Manchester Orchestra(listen to the new song, Virgin, it's great) and Cage the Elephant and such, I've only listened to Hurts so far...but let me just say, that album is so good. I'd describe it as the 'perfect pop record' if I didn't take to doing that with a different album every fortnight or so. Better Than Love is beyond catchy, it drives me crazy...and the intro song, it's surprisingly dark, for a pop song. Hurts are interesting, because they're both very 80s and very modern pop, it's strange. It's all Pet Shop Boys synth, with Depeche Mode darkness, plus dub step influences, dance influences, and (heterosexual) sex appeal. It's fuuuuun. I thought I'd drive my parents crazy with the record but, luckily, they really like it too. They're definitely a 'love them or hate them' sort of band...as for me, now that I'm more familiar with them, I'm very excited to see them in August. Also, I got piano versions for Sweeney Todd and Star Wars, like I kept going on about. they're both pretty easy but I can only play easy stuff, so it works well. Unfortunately, no No Place Like London(my favorite ST song after Johanna Reprise), but it has all the other popular ones so it's all good. I got an awful lot of DVDs, not exactly sure why! I got Peep Show Series 7 on DVD(love.) and I've consequentially been reminded of how utterly brilliant all of Peep Show is. It's better to watch them on DVD, because the series are so short it almost seems like they don't flow together when you're just watching them as debuts. I really liked the episodes when re-watching them now. The rest of the family seemed to like them, also, so now I can probably get away with watching them every single day until Series 8 in November...which I'm totally excited for. I'm really worried about Dobby moving in with Mark, though, simply because I adore Dobby and I'll be heartbroken when Mark&Dobby inevitably break up in the next series. Also, in series eight, I need to see more of Sophie(as much as I dislike her), and also I'd like a return of either Elana or, better yet, Nancy. Or Zhara! Zhara's character is so brilliant.
Also got Deathly Hallows Part 1 on DVD. Also, a few months ago, I suddenly remembered Doogle and the Blue Cat...which was my favorite movie when I was, um, eight. if you went through your childhood without Doogle and the Blue Cat, you are missing out on so much. Basically, it's a French kids from from the early 1970s which was (as all good kids films are) probably made on hallucinatory drugs. It's great because the English version is dubbed with a completely different storyline to the original French one, goodness knows why. I'd, um, recommend it if you're into trippy kids stuff. Also, I got the much sought-after original theatrical versions of Star Wars IV, V, and VI. Not only does the nerdiness in me revel in that, but laughing at the crappy special affects in itself is a very fun event. I got the Clangers(haha, love) on DVD as a sort of joke, but also a whole array of old Disney movies...I have them on VHS, not DVD, and I no longer have a VHS player, so re-buying them was good.
Weekend was good. Bought magazines on Sunday and working until 12:30 AM on Monday morning for a science project, no big deal there. But the crux of my weekend is, of course, the new episode of my beloved Doctor Who. So, thoughts--1. I want loads of clothes in Tardis Blue. 2. This episode is...so confusing. 3. What was the point of the whole 'Doctor, I'm pregnant' thing? 4. The orphanage scene was AMAZING to the max, but really creepy even by Doctor Who standards. 5. The guy at the orphanage is my new favorite person, I think. 6. Matt Smith with a beard...like, woah. mind blown. 7. I've just realized, now, how brilliant/terrifying the Silence are. 8. the ending was kind of fast and difficult to follow, but good nonetheless. 9. The bit with the girl at the end...takes 'mind blown' to a whole new extreme. Damn you, Moffat, you Doctor Who writing genius! 10. And, most importantly, the kiss! I wasn't expecting it this early to be honest, but I'm just glad the kiss wasn't with Amy(growl.)...and as It's River's last kiss with him, it's also quite sad. Overall, good episode, I really like it...and I totally just love River.
World Civ is a big nightmare. We finished our projects on civilizations on Tuesday. On Tuesday through Thursday, all the groups put up their posters around the room and we were told to take notes on them. However, it wasn't usual 'take notes' type stuff, we were taking notes on six specific questions that were completely irrelevent to the posters. If nothing else, it was slightly frustrating to think that I did that massive timeline for nothing. He gave us like twnrty minutes on each country, though in reality those notes only too about five. And we spent all of yesterrday doing the shitty essay I have to write tonight, and then watched 9/11 videos. Stayed up to 11:30 last night doing a supremely irritating essay, and did decently on the test today. Time to move out of the middle ages, please.
health was watching the embarassing English puberty vid in one day, and then a crappy TV movie about HIV. Ugh. And I have to do a term project for this silly class--I'm choosing Bi-Bolar. On the one hand, yes, bi polar has been done to death but on the other, remarkably, most people seem to know very little about it still. I'm tired of hearing teenagers talk about how they were so happy one day and then so sad the next and how they're 'totally Bi-polar' and such, so I want to shed a little light on how fucking stupid these people are. Also, today we had symbolic unprotected sex, by exchanging index cards. I got symbolic AIDs. Ah, health class.
I finally finshed my picture in art--we're onto some geometric thing that requires creativity, of which I have little. Mostly I do homework and sit through stupid conversations. (Someone at my table asked today 'Can you die from Aspergers?' The amount of time it took for the others to resolve this girl's question was, um, troubling). Doctor Who has been on my mind too much and a fellow Whovian suggested I do a Doctor Who theme for the next project, but I'm not sure I could make it work. Sigh.
Classifacation of animals in science...going thyrough all the domains and kingdoms and classes and I want to cry with how boring they are, also the teacher continues to bring in skins for no reason...last week she brought in a bear skin, and continued to spend a half hour talking about bears. She called finding wild bears 'summer fun'. Time-waster or what? We went out at the beginning of the week to our environmental site. As per usual, we rushed through our tests in fifteen minutes and then the guys in our group started breaking sticks of increasing sizes with their hands and feet and faces. But, at least its got warm as of late o going outside is far less torturous. Present my awful(really, honestly awful) poster yesterday, to much stress. It's a test grade. I have a quiz next week--always a cause for minor mental breakdowns, as any reader of my blog will know--and then I have to do an organism report on some sort of reed. Fun, no?
Lastly, English hasn't benn too great so far this last week and a half. We've started Tale of Two Cities, hoorah! I guess I'm liking the book so far. My reading comprehension isn't very good so sometimes it's a struggle, but overall it seems to be good. (Apart from Lucie. I mean, what the hell, Dickens? Aren't you supposed to be about over-the-top people and good characterization? Explain yourself.). Unfortunately, my uber pretentious literature-snob of a teacher decided to be particularly irritating about 'one of her favorite books'. We've been put into reading groups. I'm with one girl who I'm pretty sure hates me, another quiet girl who also doesn't seem to like me, and two guys with no interest in doing any work whatsoever. Most of the time she just sits us down with this vast packets, all about analyzing the text, even when I'm pretty sure there is very little that needs to be analyzed. Last week that and vocab(not fun, either) was all we did, even on Friday afternoon. Just packets. Just when I thought things in that class could not got any worse, the teacher announced we would do a graded fishbowl activity. Graded. Basically, we have a four-person discussion going on about one question in the packet and you get a point for every time that you contribute something. Probably is, it creates the most vapid discussions imaginable, because people aren't looking to build off what other people have said, all they care about is saying loads and loads of things. That in itself is something I don't like, but grading it? Scandalous! I didn't contribute for all of the first day, but then the second day I was sitting next to this girl who, while being certainly less shy than I am, didn't want to participate either. Moving onto another question, we just decided to go together. And then, turns out we get the most ridiculous, irritating question in the entire packet to answer, one that I remember not 48 hours beforehand, ranting to my mother about due to its stupidity. It's all like "Defarge talks about the troubles with the French government at the time. Can you draw any parallels to today's world?" WELL, DUH. Anyone above the age of seven could answer yes to that, no? But you want me to draw parallels? Oh yay, you've totally just given a bunch of teenagers a chance to talk about shit they no nothing about! Then everyone else is all like "So, there's corruption...and Africa...and Libra, and, like, world hunger..." and all that jazz that these people seem to think is interrelated, even when it's not. And I'm there thinking, well, um, what do I say? Then we're told to discuss "how does this theme transcend place and time?" and I'm thinking...ugh, again? Cause it's universal? Y'know, bad shit that happens? Does this really need an explanation? Then the question ends and we go back to our seats and I've got a 0 for a participation grade.
The teacher pulled me and the other girl aside at the end of the lesson. The other girl was absent the day before so 'she had an excuse' but I did not. She did say she wanted us to contribute because we were 'two of the most articule people in the class'(which is both innacurate and very flattering) but 'it's no good if you can't voice these opinions to others'. So, shit, guys, I've got to start pretending I've got opinions...quite a feat, right? I did actually wanna say something about Miss Pross at one point, but I was too scared to stand up and sit down at the discussion table, so I didn't, and I regret that.
New Antlers album, ahhh, so good. Not Hospice level goodness, though Hospice is my all time favorite album, so beating that would be quite something. But really quite good.
Sorry it's been too long...I feel like I look unenthusiastic and dull here, which is sad because I had so much to say. Sorry. It has beena good week, really, I've liked it! It's just I'm forgetting what happened a week ago and I'm tired to the point of passing out right now.
So, night!
Run through time, no?

So, night!

you're at the age of not believing and worst of all you doubt yourself
so I am the only person in the world who totally adores Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Yes? I thought that much. Ignoring my synth-rock-trip-hop hipster tendencies, I totally just listened to a Disney compilation CD from start to finish. Remarkable, the ability to know this word for word after not listening to it for some five years or more. my favorite Disney soundtrack was always Brother Bear--then tarzan. Phil Collins you genius you. I wish I was a good musician.
I kinda wanna learn how to play some pieces from soundtracks on piano. Specifically Concerning Hobbits and Victory Celebration from Star Wars. And I wanna learn some Sweeney Todd stuff too. Y'know, Victory Celebration's one of my favorite peices ever, which if nothing else displays my profound ignorance of 'pieces'. The ending scene of Return of the Jedi I find sadder than any other scene in any other movie I've ever seen(strange, seeing as it's, well, a happy scene). LUKE BURNING ANAKIN. I cry at that. I'm bawling for most of Return. the only ever TV show scene I'ce cried at I'm pretty sure is the end of Doctor Who series 2. This speaks for itself, really, doesn't it?
This weekend was the first day it felt like spring. Had to brave the infamous shorts shopping fiasco that rears its ugly head every April. My pasty legs(or rather lack there of, y'know) don't wanna show themselves Monday morning when it's allegedly 'GONNA BE LIKE ABOVE 80'. That part of me does not like spring. The other utterly adores spring. Today, waking up, reading HP, playing badminton with neighbors(so she's like 10. so? I gotta give the 'loss of innocence' angst a break sometimes), went for a walk, et cetera. As far as my weekends go, this goes under the category of 'entertaining and almost productive'. Tomorrow I hope to go downtown and then bury myself under homework and Disney songs.
I have a week till April vacation, which'll be fuuuun. Doctor Who April 23rd, Easter 24th, birthay the 25th. Could that be any more perfect? This year is going by too fast sometimes, it seems. On Monday or Tuesday, I can't remember, V added some more people to the lineup--Chipmunk, the Wanted, Lostprophets, Good Charlotte, Noisettes, Kids in Glass Houses, Dionne Bromfield. Not super excited about any of these but a festival's a festival and a lot of people seem to forget that it's basically a weekend in a field watching live music with your friends, not something for grown adults to lose their heads over on V's FB page. Seems I'll be seeing an emo band this year. Huh. Oh well, I'm up for that if needs be...I actually rather wanna see at least ONE emo band just to...see what it's like. Preferably Good Charlotte but anyone works. Noisettes were fun back in '09 so they'd be good again, and Dionne Bromfield would be fun for a little break, in the little tent I assume.
School runthrough time? Well of course.
Art is still me drawing a prism. I got to coloring by Thursday! That was a good moment. Shame I'm limited to colored pencils. It really hinders what I can do, especially considering all that crazy detailed colored sections the picture has. Mine'll take forever. Luckily I sit at the table with The Art Prodigy who's days behind everyone else, so I won't be entirely alone.
In Health we finished the drug unit. We're onto the sex ed unit. Naturally my details of this are gonna be sparse, though I doubt I'm gonna freak out about this like I did last time the topic came around. (In 7th grade I titled a blog post "I Started Health Today o.O"). Though as far as freask-outs go, things aren't looking terribly reassuring. Our first activity on the matter was in the style of one of those get-to-know-you games teachers like to dish out. Y'know, where you're given a handout with a list of things on like "Has a birthday in April" or "Has travelled to Europe" and you're supposed to go around the room and find someone to sign if they've done the aforementioned thing. This activity is uncomfortable enough without things like "Knows where babies grow" and "is comfortable with their body". Hmmm. It's no fun studying for a male/female anatomy quiz--I had to hide myself in my room, all suspicious like. And we get bonus points for asking dumb questions about sex! Luckily I think she knows I'm gonna be quite silent about the whole matter. Good, good.
Science! Oh science! How I wish I could keep my eyes open to absorb some of your endless information! I got a 98% on a group project and continue to just scrape by passing grades for homework handouts that I don't understand one bit. my science teacher continues to bring in dead animal skins and skulls to pass around the class to an arry of screams and unhappy faces. There's a company that makes fake, plastic animal crap for science teachers. What do you say ayt parties when someone asks for your job when you're the guy who makes that stuff?
In world Civ we've got round to research for our projects about various civiliations/empires/whatnot in the Middle Ages. I was surprised to find out that France wasn't a TERRIBLEY interesting country between the years of 1400 and 1750. It has its fair share of cool stuff, certainly, but most of their events were to do with killing Hugeunots and going to war with Spain which is a little bit...eh. Research hasn't been too much fun. Neither is my group. One of them I sit with at lunch, I rather like actually, I'm with two other girls who seem daunted by the task of drawing a remotely detailed map of Europe, and who like to flirt with random upperclassmen when we're working in the library. I was even a little bit upset with the decent girl, who gave me some completely unworkable dimensions for a timeline. No matter, I will brave it on my own. L'etat, c'est moi.*
In English our student teacher continues to have no control whatsoever over our class. They frequently break into giggles over things and beg and whine to watch some more of The Minority Report--a movie which to be honest is doing nothing for me. I'm pretty sure I failed a test and a quiz because I barely studied, but I got an A on an essay so all is almost well. I was beginning to lose all hope in this guy's teaching abilities until, when some douchebag went on about how a counter(a vocab word) is 'a thing women work behind', he told him he'd take extra points off his quiz if he wrote that as his definition. The douchebag continued 'I thought you'd add points. I thought that'd be bro-ish'. Teacher: 'I'm not a bro'. Student raises an eyebrow. 'Not in that sense' says the teacher. I know the teacher's obligated to do this and I know The Douchebag's whole shtick is basically just getting a rise out of people to avoid writing notes, but...I thought that was cool of the teacher nonetheless.
Music--Metronomy, Biffy clyro, Atari Teenage Riot, jj, James Blake, Those Dancing Days, Eminem, Ellie Goulding, Villagers, Paloma Faith, the aforementioned Disney. I've fallen a bit out of routine with my music these last couple weeks, but I'm trying to catch up again! God music is great. And reading Harry Potter. and being so excited for new Doctor Who episodes you can barely stand it. And browsing obsessively through Comme Des Garcons pictures. And spring. And roaming Tumblr for pictures all afternoon.
Anyway, good night.
*Actually I think that would be a bit insulting to my groups' efforts beyond my own. I'm just the sort of person who thinks throwing quotes from French monarchs makes me sound smart. (it doesn't).

Ewan McGregor
...is my life...
Revenge of the Sith came out just before I hit puberty, I believe. Because of that, when I've watched it again in more recent years, it's been shown to me in a totally new light.(yes, I am talking about Obi Wan, obviously.)(yes, Ewan's gorgeous, isn't he?)(yes, I'm gonna spread this out over another paragraph).
I've been in a Star Wars mood lately. And when I say mood, I mean addiction. obsession. pure that's-all-i-think-about level of devotion for the past week or so. It's funny cause I've loved Star Wars, really adored all the movies, bar maybe Phantom Menace but that has Qui Gon Jinn(lovelovelove) so that makes up for it, since Attack of the Clones came out. although after re-falling in love with them now I realized how little of the dialogue I really understood when I was younger, particularly in I, II, and III. Now that I actually have a general idea of what's going on, and am not completely overwhelmed by all the pseudo political talk, I have realized how fucking fantastic the whole thing is. I really love them. and I'm a reglar now on Fuck Yeah Star Wars. I'm lost among a fandom of aging men and pre-pubscent boys, but it's fine because the fandom's awesome and the movie's are great. GREAT I TELL YOU.
Can I say I've never been like fangirl-batshit-crazy over an actor before? Not even David Tennant, I'm pretty sure(but not certain--that was a while ago), not even Johnny Depp or Elijah Wood or Jared Leto, therefore I fail as a heterosexual girl. But I have a redemming point now. Ewan. McGregor. oh. my. god. have you seen him? in anything? even in magazines? he's...amazing. breathtakingly wonderful in all of the ST movies, and attractive obviously, and really lovely, and he can sing, it's fantastic. I never realized before just how great he is. and all of a sudden I am really an addict, to him, for no reason. search "Ewan McGregor tumblr" and literally you will be glued online for hours upon hours upon yet more hours, or at least I was mid-week, it's sad but unavoidable with someone like him.
(Aren't Scottish accents just the best accents out there? No? I'm writing this on St. Patrick's Day, am I[though I'll publish it the day after]? Ah, the nonconformist I am. Scotland's great.)
Team Ewan McGregor, yes, yes, yes.
HERE ARE MY WEEKEND PLANS
1. Watch I Love you Phillip Morris.(don't judge me)
2. Watch Moulin Rouge
3. Watch Big Fish
4. Watch Trainspotters
5. Watch Angels and Demons
6. Watch The Men Who Stare At Goats
7. Watch Amelia
8. Watch the Ghost Writers
9. Internet
10. Homework
I don't care how bad people may judge the first eight movies to be. I get special treatment because I almost never watch movies, right? Ignorance makes up for my bad taste.
It's gonna be great.
I think my mom'd realise something's up if all these movies randomly appeared on my birthday list, no? Thus it must all be done in secrecy. I must reveal my obsession piece by piece. first, "have you seen Big Fish? Oh yeah, it's a Tim Burton thing...and Tim Burton's good, so we should see that" and then we'll watch it and I'll be like "oh, that's Obi Wan Kenobi, isn't it? oh, his name's Ewan McGregor, you say? Oh I had NO IDEA. he's such a good actor, right? what else has he been in? let's watch more movies". she needn't know how many of my favorite pictures on Tumblr are of him.
Everyone's hatrid twards Rebecca Black is childish and stupid. Most things I've heard about it comment on the silly lyrics(though apparently being told you're a firework or hearing glee sing sing 'L-O-S-E-R I can only be who I are" not a typo--is totally fine) and calling her a "stupid bitch". when I say stupid bitch, I mean really, that's like half the content in some of these infuriated blog/vlogs I've seen. It should go without saying that someone who considers this a crux to their argument--or who thinks they're the first one to comment on Friday, for that matter--isn't really someone worth valuing. Rebecca's actually a bit smart. Se's a teen pop star for the briefest moment, it goes under the same category as hating Justin Bieber(though yes, his songs are better, more production values). It's just so, so juvenile, hating these teenagers who haven't really commited any serious travesty to the music world with what they're doing. The people who, in my opinion, should be widely abhored, are met with love, mainly by the Rebecca Black haters. Namely emo bands and post-grunge bands. ALL OF THEm. GET RID OF THE LOT. BURN THEM AT THE STAKE. MUSICAL BLASHPOMY. although I'd actually be cool keeping the Colour and the Shape, if I'm honest, and MCR do not fall under any of these categories in case you were wondering. I very much want Gerward Way and co alive.
sorry to go all Rolling Stone going-against-the-tide re the Rebecca Black thing but I believe it had to be said. those who hate it, just grow up, for the love of god.
So the remarkable thing is, I haven't been to a concert since early December. Weezer, they were fantastic, but now they're coming thick and fast. apparently Manchester Orchestra are touring with Cage the Elephant and O'Brother. The tickets are so cheap it's almost scandalous, so I'm going--it's May 10t. I LOVE Manchester Orchestra and this has given me the kickstart to buying CtE's most recent record--I'm up for it. it all brings me back to Biffy Clyro/Manchester Orchestra/O'Brother/The Featrures, March 30th 2010. One of the best shows of my life. Was almost in Simon Neil's range of sweat. (again, don't judge me for this.) and I could have talked to James if I had the guts. Alas, I did not. I remember how sad I was listening to I Could Feel A Hot One after they'd gone. sniffle. new album, please. Funny thing is, wEEZER ARE also playing in Boston the same day as Arctic Monkeys. Talk about bad scheduling. Boston's gonna be empty.
So, school.
Main news of the week is our school's probably gonna cut one of the music teachers(and with it most of the music department thing) and everyone's up in arms about it and writing annoying signs and wearing supportive t-shirts. It's positively drenched in sensationalism and I'm just being quiet about it because I disagree with just about everyone else. Here's what bothers me--can we please just learn to be realistic? #1--I don't know the exact numbers of debt my town is in, and neither do any other students, so it's all well and good for us to say 'well, they should cut this, this, and this' when we've NO IDEA what this equates to or what the consequences are for the school. Therefore, to do so is silly #2--yes, they put far too much money into sports. In my ideal world, they'd cut most of the sports. But my ideal world is also free of Aids, rape, and discrimination. And honestly all of those problems are gonna be sorted out before my school cuts some sports, so get over it #3--These people who complain are all in the music department. It's not about the importance of the music department to them, it's the fact that they're in it. If we cut all the visual arts, most of them wouldn't be at all bothered. Selfish? Yes. #4--There are oganizations outside of school that can do this stuff you'll miss, so it's not the end of the world. #5--People are going on about how valuable the teacher they're cutting is as a person. The committee can't back down now, can they, they can't just go 'well, he's popular, we'll cut this other person instead". How unfair is that?! And besides, it's entirely possibly you're cutting someone else's favorite teacer if you're cutting someone else, particular if they're in the arts, as most people would say that's where the bulk of awesome teachers are situated. That is NOT fair. #6--Apparently my disagreement means I don't have an appreciation for the arts, or music. If you know me, you know that's nonsense--I know more about contemporary music than anything else. How arrogant. #7--"well, show choir is our family! some of us can only feel accepted here!". such crap. this isn't Glee, guys. I know people in these clubs, and they're totally normal, average, acceptable people for the most part. they DO feel accepted elsewhere. and fyi, this kinda undermines people who don't feel accepted at all. not in the arts OR in sports. I'm not explicitly talking about myself here because I'm totally fine most of the time, but still, this just isn't true and its unfair to others. #8--academics come first. I'm sorry, but there's no way around that. I hear some of the AP language classes might be cut, and my science teacher today was talking about the frustration in THAT department due to cuts. really, guys, my school is regared nationally as a good public school, and the AP classes are absolutely essential in my mind, far and away above music or arts or anything. #9--'It'll damage the nation as a whole--these people need the INSPIRATION to make music and sing". bullshit. Most mainstream artists who are generally regarded as good did NOT start this way. this is perhaps different for Broadway/Opera/whatever singers, but still. if you like music, you'll like music. if you're good at music, you're good at music. whether you're in a club or not. you'll go far with it, whether you're in a club or not. #10--these guys are all about the data that shows positive correlations between academic achievement and extra curricular activites. fyi, no one's IQ drops randomly cause they stop doing show choir. nor will their determination. I HATE statistics like this because there's so much more going on than just these numbers. for one thing, determined students do well in school AND do loads of outside stuff. therefore, lots of people in extra curriculars = determined kids= good grades. also, schools that can afford this stuff = wealthy schools. it's no secret wealthy schools get good exam results. there is way more going on than this.
While I'm amazed by the determination of these kids(they were gonna write the teachers name in cups in the wires of the tennis court at 6:30 this morning. I was expecting to see the letters sort of peter out half way through--but no, they were thre) I have to dispute their arguments as being unrealistic and juvenile. their first step was arguing at a town meeting, filled with them in matching t-shirts, bawling, and a bunch of guys in suits not taking them seriously. These people are being exceptionally childish in my opinion, and need to learn to face the imperfect situations which our school faces. or at least make an effort to provide some sort of viable alternative, rather than just wave signs at me as my bus drives into school.
I seem to be filled with relentless hatrid of everything and everyone. but hey, it's warm outside.
I took a science quiz on Monday and got a 96% on it. where'd that come from? Third best grade in the class, this is a good day. We've spent the week talking about soil. yeah, soil. It's pretty horrible. And I had to do a presentation. I was told by the girl next to me to speak up. She said this while I was talking anfd my brain was natrally inclined to stop talking to hear her say this, creating an awkward pause in the presentation. That made my presentation worse and it wasn't my fault. Why do people tell me to be louder? Do they think I have a say in this? Do they think I'd choose this if I could? Then she goes and reiterates everything I've said to the entire class. My head was thinking loudly and many scatching words crossed its path. This girl got a 99% on the test. Isn't the combination of intelligence and annoyingness just the worst? Her friend got a 76% so, like, ha.
This week in health was a nightmare, I finished this Time Capsule that had been looming over my head for a couple weeks, and it was awful. I literally couldn't finish the three-page paper. It was 12:30 and I was just like "ugh, forget it, I physically cannot spill out any more bs onto this page". Then I had to find ten things that represent me(Money, phone, ipod camera, thing from paris, thing with my last name on it, V Festival lineup 2011, book, pen, calculator). I presented it to class. I mumbled throughthis, completely petirifed as per usual, and no one could hear what I was saying. your average presentation done by me. These will be the death of me. I quite liked my mom's outlook on this project, which is basically me talking about how much I love heroin and unprotected sex for three pages. Oh I love her.
Today in art, I discovered the girl who sits next to me loves Doctor Who and then I didn't shut up for a while, which is a first in art in that class. And, she loves Graham Norton! Woah, that's actually very amazing indeed. and she's a nerdfighter! She's amazing. Speaking of Doctor Who, new episode out APRIL 23rd! AHH! So exciting! This is especially great because easter is April 24th and my birthday is April 25th. it's gonna be an amazing few days! Also, Ive gone far too long without watching Doctor Who, it's sad.
In World Civ we made castles(we're in high school, aren't we?) for two days and today we watched a documentrary about castles and they went to a medieval place in England I've been to. They do reanactments sometimes. (historical reanactments are wonderful). It's not my favorite history reanactment place though--there's this one in Kent where they give you fake Elizabethan coins and stuff. That place is one of my favorites in the world.
In English our student teacher is teaching is full time. It's not too much fun, though, presenting Aphoridte when Athena was so obviously the superior goddess and then spending all of today talking about verbs. We're reading Things Fall Apart, which is dull, and Oedipus, which I don't have the literary comprehension skills to get my head around, so I'm not sure it's worth trying in the first place.
No good singles came out this week except Patrick Wolf's but Us iTunes doesn't have that for some strange music. Since I've found NO good music this week, all I've done is listen to Tom Smith(Editors)' gorgeously melodramatic baritone bellow through my house, and I lie next to expensive speakers and hear of him ramble about plane crashes and depression and such. That and the perfect synth pop wonderfulness that is La Roux. Their songs work really well together, it's funny how they work worse as singles alone therefore the publicity is worse--not that this has hindered them, of course. I'm still tempted to write 'her' when refering to La Roux, though I've known for ages that this is not the case. Also the Naked and Famous' single of the week is worth checking out. Don't you just love when the song you want to buy just happens to be single of the week? It's only happened to me three times. anyway, Naked and Famous, take Passion Pit and make them better. Took me a while to get into them. (they've been hyped for a about fortnight now, so 'a while' is maybe about six days, since I'm as fickle as all the hipsters), since the first song I heard sounded like bad Radiohead. amazingly they're not like this at all.
This weekend I AM going to find Elbow's new record. I've tried SO HARD not to listen online but I admit, I gave up and listened to Lippy Kids. I love it. you know how, as 'music fans', we're always going on about how bands need to progress their sound from album to album? And I do that, I talk about that. But you know there's a few bands who you physically cannot do that with, because it seems like their music was made for you, even though you know this is betraying your obligations as a music critic? Yes, that me with Elbow. and indeed, everyone else with Elbow. Keep on repeating music, Guy Garvey, and keep writing pretty words. (ps, why do you keep talking so much about birds?)
I apologize for going a week without writing here. My cousin's vsiting sunday and I'm likely doing nothing tomorrow. the past week has been school work and music, as you'd expect.
so, 'night.

March 12th.
This guy is awesome. It doesn't get much better than that.
This weekend is going to be hell. I have a science test monday, which covers everything from the beginning of the semester(6 weeks ago) onwards, I have a science project due Monday that I haven't started, and I have a health project due Thursday that I haven't started. Add this to liberal amounts of La Roux and Star Wars and I'm in for a busy weekend.
The science test is going to be a massive disaster, because you know when you get a 99% on a quiz the following test is going to be catastrophically awful, thatt's just the way these things work. I'm going/being forced to go to the library Sunday to study with the girl who sits next to me. I never quite understood this mutual studying thing but hey, every little helps**. The health project is pretty basic--write a three page paper about myself, answer some questions, decorate + fill a paper bag with ten things that summarize me. Needless to say writing three pages all about me will be a walk in the park, sad how I could do that any day. The value statements are just about what makes me happy/sad and where I wanna be in five years time, all that usual Health stuff. (do you know how much bs I'm gonna have to stuff into this project? D'you think I could answer this stuff honestly? pfft, as if. Don't the teachers know that half the stuff we write in All About You projects is completely made up?). The paper bag element is more problematic. What does symbolize me, anyway?
(This week was the week of private school acceptance letters. The madness of this, which I despise and like to rant about at every oppurtunity, makes me feel so fucking Holden Caulfield it makes me sick. That's who I am, isn't it? I'm him. I'm the very stereotype I wish to avoid. I spend so much time going on about how kids are forced to know their career choices before they want to and how we're forced into privaye schools and looking good for collages, that my CV's literally just gonna read "catcher of small children before they fall over a cliff". SIGH.) I don't know why the last paragrapjh led to this, but it did. Private schools aren't even worth that much. If you're smart you're smart, wherever you go, and you'll get into a good college. Public schools suck, but private schools are just expensive, elitist, overrated public schools. I don't see the big deal. The ordeal makes me sad.
The science project is worst of all. My three partners need to keep their egos in check. Yesterday we were planning to meet up in the science room before school. The male person in our group was all too fast to declare that he'd have NO problem WHATSOEVER with showing up before school. So I show up and there are the other towo people. Okay. He never shows up. Is he such a narcissist that he literally thinks he's too good for the person he was yesterday? Is that the extent of his arrogance? Because it's pathetic. The other two girls in my group got to cleaning out their turtle tank which flooded and was then having a sort of lettuce overload, and thenpone of their boyfriends came(who is perfectly boring. I'd never seen him in real life before). Mornings on G days are usually reserved for sitting alone in the health room listening to music that I'm too embarassed to listen to at times when I'm with people who might hear and recognise the song. It's a valuable part of the day. And I lost that because of someone else's overly high self esteem. I was not very happy. And I'm not very happy with writing about glaciers for hours upon hours this weekend.
I really despise homework-heavy weekends. It always feels like I never left school and I have school for a whole fortnight which is awful. I look half-dead right now even though this week wasn't terribly bad.
The snow is melting here really fast. We had an amazing sunset today and I was able to go outside in a sweatshirt to take crappy photos and I wasn't even cold. It was an amazing moment. I cannot wait for spring...I miss wearing shorts even though I shouldn't. and spring music--the Kooks, yeah I'm gonna sink that low. Although Naive is a nice little song in my opinion. But I like Razorlight more. Don't kill me!
I'm not doing Lent but in health I have to give up something for a week. Yeah, like they're really gonna control my life that much. A friend suggested I give up coffee, because I don't drink coffee in the first place. So that's what I'm doing. Health isn't too bad actually, for health, you don't do anything. Health is good because it's not art--any project which is "limited only by your imagination" instantly gets my heart racing. I'm not a creative person. And don't all your artists start telling me that everyone's creative, because that's crap and I know it even if you don't. We're doing op art. I would've thought I could handle this because when I doodle everything's really geometic, I must draw like a hundred triangles every day for no reason to the point of hating triangles. But alas my brain can't even wake up enough for that I so opted for the People Who Aren't Artists choice, which is basically writing my name loads of times and stuff. It's awful, but there we go. I have art three times next week and I really, really don't want to go to school because of it. worst. class. of the day. not joking.
We watched a video about Marco Polo in World Civ for like two days and we didn't even finish it. Crappy movie but lovely timewaster, And Kublai Khan was white in this? Even though every other Asian person was portrayed by an Asian actor? That was really quite strange. Today we started talking about Feudalism--proud to say I don't care and don't know everything about it, though my class expected me to be a master. I wish people would know how much I don't like the royal family. Why do people assume I give my absolte obedience to them? I don't! If you think this then you're just ignorant, and yet this view 'round here is so, so common that it's scary. They don't know anything about the UK. We have real politics and stuff too, guys...it's not all earls and barrons(I don't even know what those are) and such. People in this country seem to be incapable of grasping the completel insignificance of the royal family in the UK. When the stuff about the royal wedding came out, all these womens magazines were gushing over it and I was like "wait, what? who's getting married?". I can give you a pretty good list of the history of the UK's monarchs off the top of my head, but that's my nerdy party trick, that doesn't mean I actually know about the royal family or feudalism or anything like that, god. People think we live in the middle ages, dead serious, and it's pathetic. It's good that my world civ teacher mentioned how the Family are just for ceremonial purposes, but still, some people think we're so backwater. Don't talk to me about your fucking democracy, cause it all comes from English stuff.(which comes from Greek stuff. BUT MY POINT REMAINS.) We're not so oldfashioned. Our political system's fucked up, but any American would tell me in a heartbeat that theirs is too. So just because we were once imperalists and we still have knights, doesn't mean we're behind. it's working okay for us, as it is for Belgium, Denmark, Luzemborg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the other reaosnably developed constitutional monarchies, mkay? we're in the same boat whther you'd admit it or not. And also I don't pledge random allegience to my country.
AND while I'm into this orgy of ignorant anti-Americanism, there's this Facebook group that says "Japan gave us sushi, Germany gave us cars, Americans gave us the light bulb, and England...well, England gave us something to laugh at". Fuck you. Don't you know the rest of the world is laughing at you? And I'm sorry for the many decent Americans(and yes, there are many, many of them out there) for having to deal with these ignorant double digit IQ conservative wankers. Surely, you cannot look at what most people see as your culture, and think you come off well? Fast food, crappy TV, religious maniacs, the jury's still out on abortion, the death sentence is okay, homophobia, racism, sexism, gun-owning, ignorance, sensationalism? And that's totally okay, right? That's not totally laughable? We're far, far from perfect in about a billion ways, but this Brit is not claiming to hate an entire country. Not even this hell hole.
(PS, an Englishman invented the lightswitch. Good luck turning your lightbulb on without it, you dick).
(PPS, whenever Germany comes up in conversation for whatever reason, the word Nazi is fast to follow it. I've heard some seriously erroneous beleifs on Germany and Nazi-occupied Germany, and for some reason people seem to hate the country, and yet now they've decided they're awesome for this FB group.)
(PPPS, speaking of Japan, I saw a blog post the other day with these artsy pictures followed by "My heart is with Japan today". Fuck you too, you used a tragedy as an excuse to post Tumblr pictures to your blog, that's vile. Sad thing is, you're not the only one. I'm not claiming to go rushing out there right now to save everyone, or indeed to be taking any action at all. Call me cruel, but you're exactly the same, only difference being I'm honest about it.)
Where did that all come from? Jesus.
English was a nightmare this week--grammar test Wednesday, vocab test thursday, short story test Friday. what planet does my teacher live on? The first two were stresful but basically okay, whereas yesterday's was not a fun experience. It was pretty predictable, but the essay, oh the essay, was something else. First off, we read a story and we're given six literary devices and asked to explain three of them in relation to the story and it's theme. Dull stuff, but to be expected. But the last part, describe how these devices 'place this story in the short story genre'. Okay, hang on, last time I checked, there are two qualifacations to become a short story. One, you must be a story. Two, you must be short. WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO THAT? It has nothing to do with characterization, duh! God. Now she's gonna give me a C because she rambles on and on about how if we miss out a part of the prompt that the world is literally gonna explode, or something, but what was I supposed to write to that? All the other classes are reading Tale of Two Cities and stuff, ugh.
Oh yeah, my cousin's visiting next weekend. He's moved to Chicago in september. It'll be awkward but I don't see my family much, tiny as we are.
I'm being perfectly boring, but all I wanna do is sleep and watch TV and listen to Yann Tiersen. I apologize. But...goodnight.
**Speaking of that, someone in the cagereria the other day had a plastic Tescos bag. A PLASTIC TESCOS BAG. My mind was blown.

the car we never had, the house we never owned
This song has been permenantly on my mind for the past 48 hours.
This goes under the category of "Awesome Cheesy Pop Songs" in my head--a place where Patrick Wolf is no newcomer. I totally loved his darker stuff, everything from Tristan to the Magic Position, and now there's this catchy, adorable pop-y wonderful song. Just...delighftful. But also evil--a quintescential summer song released in the dead of winter? Why? Now I just want summer about a thousand times more. Thanks, Mr. Wolf.
Though at least the snow is melting here and it's almost pleasent being outside, that's something. I always considered February the worse month, but March is far from nice, too. My random urge for summer to hurry up has manifested itself in my listening to nothing but pure pop music for the past week. Tinie Tempah, La Roux, Rihanna, Jessie J, Hurts, Eliza Doolittle, and the like. I can say I think all of these are talented to some degree(Rihanna maybe not? hard to say. she has good producers.) but I hope actual warmth arrives so I can listen to stuff with some credibility. I think the same applies for the rest of my family--moody trip-hop Groove Armada songs have been replaced with the Divine Comedy's Best Of. Not that the Divine Comedy aren't cool or anything--Neil Hannon is adorable in a very odd way, no?
I only have 164 days to wait and the anticipation is killing me. I'm so happy I got super-early bird pre-sale tickets in August, since V sold in record time this year. 80 minutes! Although this doesn't even seem to be the truth somehow, from the tales I've heard. Some people were on straight away and couldn't get tickets! It sucks for people who actually wanted to go and couldn't get tickets...and makes all the V-Hating especially tiesome and frustrating. It is not a lineup for chavs. (British to American translation; chav = trashy teenage delinquaint). Last night I was under the impression I was gonna be able to watch Biffy Clyro on some crappy late night TV show, before I realized the channel doesn't show for my TV. I didn't wanna go to bed till I physically couldn't saty awake, so I stayed up for another hour watching Eminem videos on Fuse. He's good! Indie Elitsts are so silly, it's so extroardinarily close-minded to say a whole genre of music(rap) doesn't belong at a music festival! What is a music festival if not a celebration of live music? Wow oh wow, some people.
But I understand you're probably not going to V, so this is of no interest to you...
For all I've complained of Arctic Monkeys' new song, they're playing here in May and obviously, I'm going, as it will be amazing. Last time I saw them--December '09--was a brutal concert. Fun, but brutal. therefore I'm staying out of the main crowd this time. This will unquestionably not be the case in August. In August, I'm fighting to the front, getting squahsed in the crowd, and just generally revelling in the chaos. Can't do that with my parents, obviously, so May'll just be a ...warmup, until the real bedlam begins. Plus, like, a crowd ten times the size of May's? Um, yeah, August'll be great.
Yesterday was the big day for Elbow fans, like myself--new album! Aaaaah! With three English tests this week it seems unmlikely I'll be able to actually get out of the house to buy it and I don't wanna ruin the experience with YouTube. But, my god, is it tempting. Every single review has been positive, averaging about an 7/10 or 8/10 or so, and everyone's talking about this one song, called Lippy Kids, which is basically about everyone not recognising adolescence as the highly important time it is("Don't they know these days are golden?"). Guy Garvey usually finds the perfect balance between reality and romance, so I'm hoping for an interesting song. And an interesting album in general! This day did NOT come fast enough. Friday can't come faster too. US TOUR NOW PLEASE.
New Wombats album released on my birthday? And I listened to Tokyo at every possibly oppurtunity today. Can honestly say I'm very excited. I loved their 1st album, it was so adorable and perfect and I could listen to it all day, ugh, you too, April you come faster now.
On another note, I was impressed/shocked by the American CD stores getting Beady Eye in right off the bat. I'm sick of Beady Eye, yeah, I'm not a fan and I don't understand the hype--BUT I was amazed that they had them here, is all.
Well, as for school, we finally pushed through our 1st art project after 5 weeks and I really don't wanna go to class because the next one is hell. I have eight days to do a health project. Science is alright, though I DO NOT want to do our next project or indeed read about plate tectonics. Or listen to the know-it-alls behind me--who really do diserve nicknanames at this point, for all they aggravate me. BUT, I do enjoy how the girl next to me has gone on a mission to label the guy who sits next to her a peodphile, and tomorrow is bringing in a pedobear(sigh.) printout tomorrow.
World Civ is cool because it's all ancient history in China and Asia in general, and I reaaaaally don't wanna go into the European Middle Ages because a lot of people are closeminded enough to think that I'm word perfect on the subject. it takes the slightest bit of brain power, that many seem to lack, to realize that that's just silly. Ugh! What is wrong with everyone at school? Even the smart people come off as two-dimensional and silly, y'know? And there's just so much crap---superfical friendships, discrimination, slut shaming, ignorance, arrogance, and bullshit to say the least. This is not news, I know, but it's been getting to me a lot lately. Some people live under rocks, really, it's unbelievable. I keep hearing the M word--that is, one used to describe a Little Person--EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY and I'm like, really, guys? What year are we living in? Are we really so fundamentally vapid that we neglect all notions of progression? And fake friendships just to look good? And act horrible to others because they dress the slightest bit differently? And act the same as others, because that's all you've ever known? And act better than everyone else to feel better? And laugh at people who are quiet for many reasons, but one of them being they(I) don't want to talk to the overwhelming majority of people they are forced to comunicate with everyday, because they're so vacuous and boring and cruel? High school, high school, high school....
Um, yeah, that's that rant gone. Happy pancake day, Brits, I've probably gained weight after all that sugar and pancake and lemons, though it's my favorite meal of the year, so I can't complain. Can't really gush about it either, sadly--too much studying to be done.
Bye.
Um, Arctic Monkeys.
They released a song earlier today and was amazed by how much I didn't like it. I mean, it was alright, but just not to the caliber of their old stuff. I was never part of the crowd that said they were going downhill with Humbug, because personally I think it's a good album with a more unique sound than their first two records, though perhaps lacking in the good lyrics department. In the first ten seconds of the song, all I was channeling was mid-oo's "I wish I was Jack White" blues rock silliness that is pleasing but decidedly overdone at this point in time. Then it got more poppy, yet somehow slower(this band seem to do that a lot), but...there was no big chorus. there were no witty anecdotes about day-to-day life in northern England. not even some insane, frantic drum beat. No, all I see is flowery dresses and palm trees and dissapointment. what gives?
I'm sure it'll grow on me. They do that a lot. But I do think it's their weakest single to date. Also, no, I do not want Whatever People Say I Am Part II, not at all. I subscribe to the beleif that bands need to change and every record needs a different sound. I'd rather they did this than did something samey. It's just my personal beleif that this is less creative than their other work. no big deal.
Still uber excited for August though. Rihanna got added to the V lineup. Needless to say, If I see Eminem I'm guaranteed a live Love the Way You Lie duet, a privalage few have had. I'm up for that. I honerstly don't understand the blatant anti-Vness this year. They sold out in 80 minutes! So what if it's pop? It's about having fun. When did the festival scene become about faking acts of lunicy and conitnuing festival-going cliches, ie drugs, indie music, and mud. it's so silly, people, geez. As for my V-going, I might be up for someone on the 2nd or 3rd stage Sunday night, depending. I've never been to the 3rd stage, oddly--it's a tent, but the entrance is a bottleneck so getting in and out is hell. Dunno about everyone else, but I'm excited. my dad took a look at the lineup yesterday(he was in Switzerland on a business thing for most of the week) and he said it was 'not amazing' which was upsetting...
People so saw last year's V through rose-tinted glasses. V always have pop. And it will always have bad bands and bad live peformances(for example, KoL were shockingly bad live. Everything except Sex On Fire was completely underwhelming). That's what's cool about it, though, cause it appeals to loads of different people. As for me, I'll take my Wombats, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Manics, and Hurts and leave all these miserable people be.
I just listened to Katy B's "Katy On A Mission" last night. I used to hear this on Radio 1 loads over the summer, and I was never completely sold. I'm not a Dubstep fan. But going back to it now, I just suddenly become aware of this gritty, clubby vibe and I realized how good it is. Also, I fell in love with Primal Scream on the very first listen to Some Velvet Morning. All I was aware of was this great wannabe-late-90s trip-hop psychadelic rock thing with a touch of sixties flower power thrown in for good measure. So, so fantastic. Primal Scream I think are gonna be 2nd to stage headliners, and my God, they'd better clash with Eminem rather than AM. I'm high on Primal Scream songs. Cannot wait until my birthday, I'm so asking for Screamadelica.
Enough of V.
My iPod might be broken though it might just be the headphones, but it's acting weird. It's lived a good, long life.
It'd be nice if I could keep my eyes open lately. I was bored last night so I tried to watch Return of the Jedi but I could not pay attention. I was up till midnight the day before last doing a science paper that was twice as long as it needs to be, too much shock and ridicule from some friends. However, we got progress reports a couple days ago and she ranked the whole class based on grades and mine was at number one so like hell am I backing down now. (I admit the ranking business is cruel, but please let me bask in this brief period of narcissism). I got a 99% on a quiz. I wonder why I'm so fixated on grades this year? It wasn't really much of the case last year. Odd.
Shame science was awful for the other parts of the week. we're doing projects outside at the moment, testing water for O2 and Co2 and temperature and such. We have to walk outside, in freezing weather, over an icy hill, to a field where the snow isn't properly compacted so I feel in to my knees, through the forest. We're in three groups and each examining one section. Of course, being three groups, which we are allowed to choose, there is only one way 14-year-olds divide themselves up--girls, guys, and the grumbly leftovers. I'm the third category! I'm with these two know-it-all girls, one guy everyone hates, a bossy leader, and a bunch of guys whose names I cannot be bothered to learn. Plus, the three groups are as follows; wetland, stream, pond. Here's the thing with the first two--THEY HAVE RUNNING WATER. Us pond-goers were outside in negative godknowswhat at 9:30 digging a hole through ice that was at least eight inches thick. It took forty minutes, much swearing, and an array of bleeding hands. With help from our teacher, we got through with five or ten minutes to rush through our testing, run for fifteen minutes back to class, and wait for another two hours to be about to feel our thighs, let alone our noses and ears and such. sigh sigh sigh. The upshot is, our place is gonna be gorgeous in the spring.
Plus, I have another project on glaciers, with three other people. Our whole group is infested with arrogance and over-inflated senses of our self worth, so it'll be a mess. A horrible, competitive, passive aggressive mess.
Today I got asked if I was a sophomore in art, then later asked if I was junior. Haven't a clue why this should be, but there we go. I don't physically look older so I guess I'm just standoffish or something.
Getting especially tired of my world civ class, to be honest. We spent four days researching for a class timeline project. my group had no idea what we were doing and ours came out a total mess. Plus, I doubt there's a single person on the planet who has an actual interest in the Byzantine Empire. I certainly don't.
English is literally beyond boring right now--short stories and essays and vocab, blah, I almost want to cry. It's no fun having it last block. Other classes are at least onto reading books, whereas we're still reading these crappy short stories and looking for dualities. I wanna get going on a book, that's something I might actually enjoy.
I'm giving Philosophy Club at school a go. It's basically sitting in a room with six other students(almost all of them being nerdy Asian junior girls) and talking. And there's a Spanish teacher and I believe a math teacher. It's fun, actually, I intend to go again.
Let's do countdowns--V in 168 days, Pancake Day in three days, NEW ELBOW ALBUM OH MY GOD ADSLFjsdfl in two, new Kills album in a month, birthday in 51 days, new AM album in four-ish months, the Killers getting back together in two months, the Script + Tim Minchin in three months, new Kasabian album at the end of the year, new Florence album at the end of the year, etc.
Music at the moment that hasn't been mentioned--The Mariner's Children, Tinie Tempah, Hurts, Editors, Imelda May, Neil Hannon's beautiful cover of Yann Tiersen's "Les Jours Tristes". Love music. Neil's voice works so well with the flutes.
I have to have lunch and do science homework(sniffle), good day.
